Porsche is getting hip to the fact that Saffas love their vehicles, which are better suited for rugged environments (like SA’s tarred roads) thanks to their all-wheel drive (AWD) or four-wheel drive (4WD) capability. The German supercar maker is sprinkling a bit more of that AWD magic dust onto its new 911 4S models — coming in Coupe, Cabriolet, and Targa options — in hopes of pulling more local drivers in.
Porsche’s 911 buzz
The Porsche 4S Carrera’s 3L twin turbo gets a 22kW bump, bringing it to a total power output of 353kW. It makes 100km/h in 3.2 seconds, with a top speed of 307km/h. This is thanks to the company’s automatic 8-speed DCT PDK transmission system. Those who want a manual version will have to look to the Carrera T.

Porsche has ported the GTS’s braking system over to the Carrera 4S, resulting in sharper and more aggressive braking. It also comes with the car company’s Torque Vectoring Plus system for smarter traction control, a sports exhaust system, and 20in/21in alloy wheels. Porsche notes that while not all of its AWD 911s guarantee improved performance in difficult weather, they all benefit from general performance increases across the board.
Now, to the meat of the matter. The 911 Carrera 4S’s three variations are now available for order in South Africa. The most affordable Coupe is valued at R3,250,000. The drop-top Cabriolet comes in at R3,517,000. The Targa version, initially designed as a safer alternative to the Cabriolet for American markets, will set you back a cool R3,552,000. All versions come under the sports car manufacturer’s three-year Drive Plan, so if you’re willing to part with your old Porsche, you can get these at a discount.
