There’s nothing quite like playing a game early while the rest of the world eagerly watches a ticking clock. As such, Sony has launched its ‘Beta Program at PlayStation’ initiative, an “easier, more consolidated way for gamers to sign up to participate in future PlayStation betas across a wide range of PlayStation experiences.”
Sony’s looking for a beta (tester)
In other words, you’ll have the opportunity to playtest games early on the PS5 or PC, try out new software updates before they’re entirely ready for the outside world, and preview new app features for the mobile client and PlayStation.com website. All you have to do is sign up using your PSN account details here.
This is a big change from Sony’s previous beta-testing attempts, which required interested users to sign up for each separate beta and massively limited the pool of eligible playtesters. Sony was forced to participate in a marketing campaign as it scoured the web for new players. Now, emails will automatically come to you.

Let’s get something straight. Signing up for the beta program does not automatically mean invite codes will flood your inbox. Sony will carefully dole out invites to test certain games and/or features to those accounts it feels are worthy of an invite – after which we can only assume you’ll be thoroughly questioned about the experience (once you’ve signed the airtight NDA, of course).
Sony will only allow accounts currently “in good standing” and feature a valid email address to participate in the beta program. Just about anyone can sign up for the program, assuming they live in a region where the PlayStation Network is available. South Africa, fortunately, is on that list.
