Keen South African travelers over the festive period can enjoy a special Travel eSIM valid in over 150 destinations all around the world, courtesy of MTN. This eSIM allows South African travelers to enjoy MTN deals from select spots on the globe, giving them a chance to catch some data savings depending on where they are. The eSIM is data only, and MTN promises it should be relatively quick to set up.
MTN’s Travel eSIM
The card is available on MTN‘s Travel eSIM page. Users can select an eSIM for over 140 countries across the globe. Deals start from seven days, users can buy up to 60 days for certain countries, and for 15 or 30 days in others. Data amounts all start at 1GB for seven days, and costs vary wildly, too. The cheapest deals seem to start at R69, going up as high as R679 for a week of 1GB if your brand loyalty to MTN extends as far as Papua New Guinea.
The new Travel eSIM’s installation and sign-up process takes less than five minutes according to General Manager of Digital Services Jason Probert. Users just scan a QR code and everything goes underway. It’s worth noting that the eSIM is data only, so if users want to make calls they’ll have to do so via WhatsApp or other video chat apps. Additionally, the Travel eSIM is only compatible with certain devices. The more recent your mobile tech, the better.
Partnering with KnowRoaming, MTN is releasing its Travel eSIM to give customers the latitude to buy data (and remain on its network, more or less) while traveling. This gives buyers the option to either jump on whatever country’s local network providers or remain on MTN. This would help travelers avoid unknowingly racking up large call debts. It’s also possible to take advantage of MTN’s deals if they’re better than local offerings.
