Local ISP (internet service provider) Vox, is stepping into the festive season with a new promotion that’s calculated to raise spirits this holiday; particularly those signed up to the MTN fixed wireless LTE package by doubling the FUP cap throughout December and January, all at no extra cost.
It’s worth noting that not every Vox-MTN customer is eligible for the bigger cap. Only patrons currently footing the bill on one of two fixed wireless MTN-LTE packages will benefit. Those are the R850/m Uncapped (FUP 1,000GB) and the R500/m Uncapped 50Mbps (FUP 500GB). If that’s you, listen up.
Shut the FUP and listen
“Customers can use the extra data to catch up on social media, stream their favourite podcast, keep the kids busy on a rainy day or finally get the chance to watch that movie they’ve been eyeing for months. And for those travelling over the holidays, with MTN’s fixed wireless package, customers can take their connection along with them,” Vox explained in a release.
We’ll get to that last bit in a moment but first, you might be wondering what an FUP cap is, and how doubling it benefits you. When signing up with any ISP, you run the risk of agreeing to a FUP or fair usage policy cap, which automatically “throttles” your internet to abysmal speeds once you cross a certain data usage threshold.
In this case, customers on one of the two packages we mentioned agree to not use more than 1TB or 500GB of data per month respectively – otherwise, they will be throttled to speeds of 1Mbps for the remainder of the month. This promotion, however, doubles the cap, allowing users to go as high as 2TB or 1TB on the above packages respectively before they are throttled into submission.

If you fall under the umbrella, you don’t need to do anything other than enjoy the fruits of Vox’s labour. If, however, you’re looking to take advantage of the FUP upgrade over the holidays at a second location, this is also allowed. But first, you’ll have to adhere to Vox’s rules to make the most out of your speeds.
First, make sure that the place you’re hoping to take it falls under MTN’s coverage. Second, you must register your second location from your primary location (i.e. your home address) before setting out. Powering up your router in the secondary location without performing this step will automatically lock your SIM card. Customers can do both by logging into the Vox Customer Portal.
