WhatsApp adds Custom Lists to help users organise chats

custom lists

Meta subsidiary WhatsApp makes chat filters a mainstay with Custom Lists, which allows users to customise their own filters. Back in April, the social media platform introduced chat filters, allowing users to arrange their chats between All, Unread, and Groups. The company is releasing its customisation feature in response to the success of chat filters in the community.

Introducing Custom Lists

With Custom Lists, you can categorize chats beyond All, Unread, and Groups. Users can now arrange individual chats into groups most relevant to them. Whether it’s a category for family, colleagues, or neighbours, Custom Lists allows folks to order and categorise all chats, letting them focus on the groups they need to talk to at a given moment.

To create or edit a list, simply tap the “+” icon in the filter bar at the top of the Chats tab. Users can also make changes by long-pressing on an existing list. Lists operate rather similarly to “Favourites,” allowing users to categorise one-on-one chats and groups, and each list will appear in a quick access filter bar.

WhatsApp rolls out Lists to users starting today, with a full rollout in the coming weeks. The social media company is also working on future updates to enhance Custom Lists to make the feature more customisable.
