Oppo brings its Reno Academy back for 2024 and AI is on the agenda

oppo

2024’s edition of the Oppo Reno Academy offers aspiring photographers and content creators a chance to further their skills, this time backed by the power of artificial intelligence. In an age where smartphones capture everyday moments, the smartphone maker aims to transform these tools into gateways for professional success. The Academy provides participants with hands-on workshops, expert-led sessions, and access to advanced AI tools through an accessible online platform.

Oppo-rtunity knocks

The initiative is Oppo’s opportunity to nurture local talent and innovation. Led by photographer Craig Howes, the 2024 curriculum focuses on mastering AI-powered tools: the AI eraser, teaching students how and why to remove unwanted elements from an image; AI smart imaging teaches photographers intelligent processing to bring the best out of a photo; and how the AI Magic Studio helps students unlock the full potential of AI editing effects and tools.

These are all Oppo products, of course. The programme is open to Reno12 Pro owners passionate about photography and aims to help amateurs and enthusiasts better understand their tools. Participants can access online content like interactive modules, practical exercises, and live Q&A sessions with Howes. Academy graduates will receive a certificate of completion.

Since its 2022 launch, the Reno Academy has empowered new talent and encouraged innovation in the creative industry. By combining AI technology with smartphone photography, the programme aligns with the brand’s mission to enhance user creativity. Purely for altruistic reasons, we’re sure.

“Many smartphone users have the passion but sometimes lack the practical knowledge to turn their
skills into a successful career,” says Avashnee Moodley, Head of Marketing at Oppo South Africa. Graduates will leave the programme with more than just technical skills. They’ll also learn how to build their ventures—whether launching photography businesses or monetizing content. Applications for the 2024 Reno Academy are now open.
