There’s a PlayStation State of Play on the horizon, apparently

Mark your calendars, because PlayStation is putting on a new State of Play, disappointing all those hoping for a bigger, better and altogether more exciting Showcase. Still, games are games, even if the event is mostly centred around remakes (The Last of Us Part 1 Remake Remastered, when?) and third-party titles that likely won’t give the PS5 Pro much to do. Here’s hoping, though.

Put your foolish ambitions to rest

Please sir, can we have some more frames?

We should note that PlayStation has yet to confirm any such event taking place. This news comes from industry insider, Jeff Grubb, who reported earlier this month that PlayStation had some sort of event planned, before doubling down on the rumour with an official date – “almost certainly” on Tuesday, 24 September – in a recent episode of Game Mess Mornings.

We’re hoping for news of an Astro Bot DLC that we know is penned for sometime later this year, but keep those expectations low. The potential Game of the Year contender is still riding the high from its massively successful launch earlier this month, meaning PlayStation might hold onto that content for a rainy day.

As much as we’d love to see new titles or IPs that can fully put the PS5 Pro’s power to good use, that’s not PlayStation’s MO. Remakes and remasters are all the rave in recent years, and that trend is set to continue after news of a Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered receiving an ESRB rating (via Wario64) for a PS5 port, and a jump to PC. Why Sony continues to rely on the Horizon franchise when Bloodborne is right there, we’ll never know.

To make matters worse, Grubb mentioned that we’d likely see yet another remaster that’s, somehow, “even less exciting” than the one coming from Guerilla Games. Many have theorised that to be a Days Gone PS5 port. Yeah, that would fit the bill. Here’s hoping the theories are wrong.
