You can pick up a PS5 for a whole lot less thanks to Sony’s Winter Sale

Praise be! For those of you Xbox owners just dying to have a go at Black Myth: Wukong before it goes out of fashion, now’s your chance. Gamefinity, South Africa’s PlayStation 5 distributor, has announced a Winter Sale that’ll knock up to R1,500 off the console’s regular asking price. And on payday, too. How kind.

Unfortunately, anyone serious about hitting that R1,500 saving will have to put up with looking at the monstrosity that is the launch edition PS5 to help retailers shift some of the ageing stock. If your partner would prefer something that can be tucked away without too much effort, you’ll only see savings of R1,000.

We’re really stretching the definition of ‘Winter’, huh?

The new PS5 Slim

Before we talk numbers, we do have some concerns about dropping such big bucks so hastily. If the rumours are to be believed (and we reckon they are), Sony has something big cooking for the holiday season – the PS5 Pro.

Whereas the PS5 Slim introduced cosmetic upgrades while leaving the hardware untouched, the PS5 Pro is all about bumping up the framerate, delivering even faster load times, and if we’re lucky, improved ray tracing capabilities. Sony has yet to confirm anything of the sort, and likely won’t until they’re days away from release.

For those who couldn’t care less about whichever suffix is tacked onto your PS5, we’d advise getting in on this sale as soon as possible. Kicking off this morning and running ’til 4 September, you’ve got a little under two weeks to scrounge up the necessary cash.
