South Africa will miss out on Xbox’s Series X/S 2024 refresh

You might remember earlier this year Microsoft announced three “new” Xbox Series X/S consoles before confirming a holiday release. Those consoles are the Series S 1TB (Robot White), Series X 1TB Digital Edition (Robot White), and the Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition, now officially up for pre-order (in the US).

Sounds good, right? We thought so too. Until we found out that none of those beauties were headed for South Africa.

It’s not like Microsoft has shafted the rest of the world, either. According to the company’s pre-order blog post, “these console options will be available in all current Xbox hardware supported regions and markets,” before going on to say that South Africa (as well as ten other countries) was an exception and hadn’t made the cut.

As for why South Africa’s been left off the list, your guess is as good as ours.

It’s not like we’re that devastated about the loss, anyway. Apart from going entirely digital by removing the disc tray on the new Series X, throwing in some new colourways and, bumping up the total storage… there’s not much else to look forward to in terms of actual hardware upgrades.

For those countries that can pre-order the refreshed consoles, customers in the US can expect an arrival date of 15 October, while the rest will have to wait until 29 October.
