With so much focus on đ•© and Musk’s plans to fold what was once Twitter into an ‘everything app’, it seems Vodacom doesn’t want to be left out of the everything app conversation. But instead of whatever’s going on at the đ•© offices, Vodacom is being pragmatic and giving people what they want – free stuff.

Everyone loves free stuff, and getting more than what you paid for something is a kind of ‘free stuff’. So everybody should be pretty pleased to know that Vodacom will give you 30% more airtime if you buy your airtime through its VodaPay app. Unless you aren’t a Vodacom customer, then you probably feel indifferent. Or hungry.

Vodacom vaunts its value with 30% airtime deal

“To take advantage of the 30% more airtime, customers need to make their airtime purchases through the VodaPay super app, available for download on the Apple App Store; Google Play Store or Huawei App Gallery,” details a press release.

If that wasn’t good enough, the red-themed Mobile Network Operator (MNO) said the additional airtime wouldn’t come with any strings attached and would be valid for 365 days. Along with using the additional airtime to place calls, customers can also convert it to specialised bundles for voice, SMS, or data traffic.

The extra airtime might last a year but it’s unclear when this promotion will end. The network operator hasn’t specified an end date, which could mean it’ll last forever. But that’s not likely. It’s far more likely that Vodacom wants to see how well this does to drive its VodaPay numbers up. We’re not complaining.

Rishaad Tayob, Vodacom South Africa’s consumer business director, said “Our goal is to exceed customer expectations by providing value and convenience. With the 30% more airtime, we are enabling customers to experience and enjoy connectivity, productivity and entertainment in line with our purpose of connecting everyone for a better future.”
