Finally, a company has designed a high-tech ring specifically for women. It’s not a wedding ring, of course. More of a promise ring, one that could help women to manage their physical and mental health.
Movano Health announced its Evie smart ring this week. which was designed with women’s health as a priority. The company plans to showcase the ring next week at CES 2023 in Las Vegas.
The ring measures a woman’s “resting heart rate, heart rate variability, SpO2, respiration rate, skin temperature variability, period and ovulation tracking, menstrual symptom tracking, activity profile, including steps, active minutes and, calories burned, sleep stages and duration, and mood tracking”, said Movano Health in a statement.
Put a smart ring on it
“As a medical device, Evie will go beyond the status quo of other wearables on the market, and we believe it has the power to transform women’s lives and overall health,” said Dr. John Mastrototaro, Movano Health CEO.

When worn, the ring collects data and translates it into insights that women can view on a mobile app. Instead of getting graphs and charts about their health, the company says the app will provide women with actionable insights that can help them to make lifestyle changes and take a more proactive approach to mitigate the risks of chronic disease.
Evie stands to become the main contender for Oura, a smart ring that measures similar metrics.
However, Movano Health’s Evie could prove more favourable to women for its ovulation and menstrual tracking features. Movano says its ring can also help users to manage their mental health.

Evie is made from polished aluminum with three different finishes available and sizes ranging from 5 to 11. Evie is expected to cost under R5,100 ($300), with no added monthly subscription fees.
Movano Health still needs to secure FDA clearance for the ring. If all goes well, this could be the first consumer wearable that is also a proper medical device. Movano Health plans to launch Evie in 2023.
