The annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) tends to feature loads of oddball tech. Some of it doesn’t wait for January to show up, either. Lenovo, they of the somewhat boring computer hardware and smartphones we don’t get in South Africa, has revealed something called the Go Desk Station.
Unlike some other items revealed at CES, this one’s probably going to make it to retail. Lenovo’s made a desktop peripheral that’s part lamp, part wireless charger, and part… webcam? It’s also guaranteed to go on sale, though it’s not certain if South Africa’s getting it.
Go Desk Station (sounds vaguely threatening)
The Go Desk Station gets its name from the company’s Go 4K Pro Webcam which makes up its major function. It’s capable of streaming 4K video at 30fps, includes autofocus and autoframing functions, and can adjust to ambient light automatically. In other words, the camera is the perfect product for the Zoom years (that have just ended, more or less). It’ll still perform well for anyone who has to conduct online meetings on the regular though.
But if you need more than just the webcam, the Desk Station’s light will keep your workspace well-lit when not in meetings. It’s capable of three different colour temperatures but they’re all variations of standard white light. It just depends on whether you like cool, warm, or daylight.

Add to that a 15W Qi-compatible wireless charging pad in the base and a selection of ports (a 20W USB-C, 2x USB-A 3.1 ports, and an HDMI 2.0 output) kinda confirm that this desk lamp will need to be connected to your computer hardware in one way or another.
Arrival and cost? That’s easy. An international release is planned for March 2023 and it’ll set you back around R6,100 ($350). The webcam as a standalone will cost just R2,600 ($150), so the extras are going to hurt your wallet. Just a little.
