Cooler Master’s Orb X “desk” is on the way for anyone dramatic enough to use it

If sitting at a traditional desk is a little too… traditional for you, then the Cooler Master Orb X may prove suitable. Before that though, just try out a standing desk. They’re good for your back and more importantly, won’t require the sale of your soul to afford. If you’ve got souls on hand, however, then go wild.

The Cooler Master Orb X is as crazy as its over-the-top name. No, it won’t make you a superhero. But it will make you far better at Rocket League – a guaranteed fact. The problem is, the Orb X is designed to be a “workstation” as well as your gaming paradise. That doesn’t mean you can’t play Rocket League from work; we just wouldn’t recommend it. Not because you’ll get fired. Just imagine your boss scores a ceiling shot on you in front of everyone. Leaving the job would be your only choice, and you’d be stuck lugging this glorified gaming chair out the door on your last day.

“The Orb X will go to the man who has the strength to seize it.”

But if you can afford the Orb X, getting fired shouldn’t be on your list of problems. You’d probably be more comfortable using the Orb’s giant three-monitor array, complete with USB ports, wireless charging, and RGB lights in the comfort of your own home.

Oh, and there’s a leg rest. You gotta have a leg rest.

Depending on your needs, the Orb X lets you either have three 27in monitors hooked up, or one 34in screen. There’s space for one (yes, one) console or laptop to go with your setup. Choose wisely. Next door is the USB hub, totalling four USB-A and two USB-C slots. The space is designed for your keyboard and the desk pad covering the space has wireless charging built-in.

Sound-wise, you’ll be surrounded, according to Cooler Master. The Orb is stuffed with two 2in speakers, two 2in tweeters, and a 5in woofer.

Possibly the most important part of the entire machine is the chair. Cooler Master wants people sitting in these things day and night, so it better be comfortable. Maybe not too comfortable, though. We don’t need the Orb X to become the blueprint for a Wall-E-like future. The chair itself is leather, with a decent-looking headrest and the ability to recline. Perfection.

From the outside, the Orb X looks just how you’d expect a gaming sphere to look. Its 340kg weight keeps it from rolling away and there’s enough RGB to blind the people around you. Cooler Master describes the Orb as having a “sleek and futuristic appearance.” Cooler Master tries to pretend that it “can fit in any occasion, such as business, entertainment, or gaming setup.”

Cooler Master hasn’t yet announced the Orb X’s price. But, based on the other thrones in this market, we’re sure it won’t be cheap. Talking to Tom’s Hardware when the Orb X was initially announced, the company mentioned that a price point of $12,000 to 14,000 (R207,000 to R242,000) should be expected. Cooler Master hasn’t released any information that challenges this estimate yet. Prepare to spend some of those souls we mentioned earlier. Though we’d suggest spending them on your Vitality first. Maybe put a few souls into Strength as well, if you’re hoping to move this thing around on your own.
