Google Pixel Watch may finally get dedicated Gmail and Calendar

Google Pixel Watch

What’s the point of a smartwatch if it doesn’t make it easy for you to check your schedule and emails as you’re going through your day? To date, Google’s Pixel Watch has been missing key features that would seem obvious for a smartwatch. Rumour has it that Google may soon be adding Gmail and Calendar apps to their wearable device.

According to 9to5Google, Google seems to be testing Gmail and Calendar apps for Wear OS, their wearable operating system. This means we won’t have to first go through the Agenda app, which only displays the agenda for three days, to see what our week looks like (at least). We’ll hopefully also say goodbye to only viewing emails through a notification pop-up.

Nowhere to hide from notifications

9to5Google says the new apps Google is testing will give us a “full’ experience. How far the experience will go? Well..we’ll have to wait and see. We can only hope that Google will finally give us the ability to create new events and write emails on the smartwatch as we go about our day.

The upgrade to Google’s Wear OS is long-overdue. Competitors, including the Samsung Galaxy Watch, already have a full calendar – something that seems like an obvious inclusion for all smartwatches.

We’re also hoping for Google’s Pixel Watch upgrade to finally get it to work independently from a phone similar to the LTE Apple Watch.

Though Google has confirmed incoming functionality updates for the Pixel Watch, it hasn’t revealed when the anticipated Gmail and calendar apps will be available.
