Netflix’s new documentary The Playlist shows how Spotify climbed to the top of the audio streaming world

The Playlist

Netflix has released a second trailer for The Playlist – a miniseries chronicling the path Spotify took to becoming the top music streamer in the world. The series looks to be a serious business drama, with all the meetings, parties and backstabbings you might expect from the story.

Charting Spotify’s story

If you were a fan of David Fincher’s The Social Network, then you’ll probably enjoy The Playlist. Though, if you aren’t a fan of subtitles, then this one may not be for you. The series was shot in Swedish which, considering Spotify was originally launched there, makes sense.

Netflix describes the series as a ‘fictionalised account’ of Spotify’s success, so if you’re looking for a true retelling, you won’t find it here. Vikings actor Edvin Endre plays Spotify CEO and co-founder, Daniel Ek. Spotify’s other co-founder, Martin Lorentzon, is played by Christian Hillborg.

The Playlist which has a total of six episodes, hits the small screen next month, on 13 October. You can check out the trailer above to see if it’s worth adding to your watchlist. Or, if you’re keen for more, check out the original teaser trailer which Netflix released earlier this month.
