Google is making it easier to remove personal information from the Internet

We’ve all done it. Even if you pretend you haven’t, we all know you have. Googling yourself to find out what the Internet is saying about you. Sometimes you’ll find something that you’d rather not be out there for all the world to see. We’re looking at you, Adam Levine. That’s why Google is releasing a tool that’ll help you find and wipe any personal information about you from Google Search results.

And we’re not talking about any cringy Instagram DMs that Twitter has already seen. We mean personal addresses, phone numbers or private email addresses. If you want it gone, Google can make it happen.

Don’t doxx yourself

Google

The feature is an extension of the ‘results about you’ feature which Google launched at I/O back in May. Originally, this was only able to show you what information on yourself was out there. Now, you can pick and choose what can and can’t stay online for the world to see.

Getting it done is pretty simple too. If you see any information about yourself you’d like cleansed, click the three-dot kebab menu at the top right. You’ll find the usual ‘about this result’ here, and below it is the new ‘Remove result’ button. If the information you’re trying to take down is an email, phone number or home address, Google will work a little faster to get it taken down.

The feature has already started appearing on phones in the U.S and Europe, though that’s about it. We’ll need to wait a few more weeks before Google manages to get it out to everyone. If you can’t wait a few more of weeks, you can go out of your way to get Google to remove information about you here.
