It feels as if every business in South Africa is jumping on the WhatsApp Business train. And why not? It’s a simple method of getting in touch with a business while avoiding any social anxieties you may have. It’s almost as easy as making your mother book your doctor appointments for you (not that we would do that).
With the rise of business accounts across the platform, business operators are examining ways to separate their work and personal lives. That’s what WhatsApp is providing with its latest update. The pending update lets users assign chats to specific devices.

As you can see, once you’re in a chat you can choose to have it assigned to one of the devices you have linked. In this case, the user can choose to have the chat assigned to Windows or Mac, or just leave it as it is, sharing across both devices. Once a chat is assigned, it’ll be highlighted on the app’s home page, letting the user know which to manage and at which time.
This would be a handy way of assigning specific tasks to specific people within a workplace. It could improve efficiency and cut down on confusion. It’d also be a handy way of knowing who to blame when that package doesn’t go out on time. You know who you are.

The bad news is that this feature is only for business accounts, at least for now. It’s also very likely to be reserved for WhatsApp Premium users willing to pay extra for some nifty features. As such, no plans for a global release have been announced.
We also have no timeframe for when businesses can expect the feature to hit various app stores. It’s currently in development, still a ways away from even releasing to beta testers. We’ll update you once WhatsApp decides to make it official.
