Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
The first trailer for a new Dungeons & Dragons movie dropped, to the surprise of many, at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC). The movie, which is loosely based on the tabletop role-playing game of the same name, seemed to be stuck in development hell for what seemed like forever. Until now.
Instead of going with a dark fantasy theme, like Game of Thrones, this movie is definitely playing to a wider audience so Paramount can rake in more money. And we’re very much okay with that. John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Game Night) are directing with Chris Pine (Star Trek), Regé-Jean Page (Bridgerton), Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Sophia Lillis (It: Chapter Two), and Michelle Rodriguez (Fast and Furious 9) making up the party of adventurers. They’ll be playing a bard, a warrior, a mage, a druid, and a barbarian respectively.
The film will premier sometime in March 2023. If you’re looking for some D&D action before that, Critical Role, an actual play podcast, started a new season recently.

Marvel’s Phase Five and Six
With Marvel’s Phase Four wrapping up soon, it might feel a little abrupt without an Avengers movie to neatly tie up storylines. Fans might also feel a little lost what with Marvel’s increased focus on episodic series. Now, instead of a couple of movies to watch every year, you’re faced with four movies and five shows with a total of 36 episodes to get through. But fear not, Kevin Feige and the minds at Marvel seem to have a plan. They detailed that plan at SDCC this past weekend. The next two phases will close out what Feige calls ‘The Multiverse Saga’.
In the coming years, we’re set to see another Ant-Man and The Wasp movie, the third Guardians of the Galaxy installment and a sequel to Captain Marvel called The Marvels which will see Captain Marvel meet Ms.Marvel. Established shows, like Loki and What If…?, will return to Disney Plus and will be joined by a few new additions like Secret Invasion featuring Samual L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Daredevil is also returning in 2024 with Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio reprising their roles. There’s also another Fantastic Four movie planned but we’ll reserve judgment on that until it comes out. We won’t be fooled again.

National Treasure: Edge of History
One of the least expected announcements this year (at least for us) was the return of the National Treasure franchise. In a 2020 interview with Collider, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said the third film and spinoff TV show were in the works. He didn’t say all that much but did mention the new show would feature a younger cast for the younger audience. That was two years ago and we’ve heard little since.
Until this weekend when the teaser trailer for National Treasure: Edge of History dropped. It’s only 18 seconds so there isn’t much to go on yet. The bit of info we do know is that Harvey Keitel will reprise his role as Peter Sadusky, the lead FBI agent from the original films. We hope that reprisal extends to Nicholas Cage as well. Maybe in a mentorship role? Please?

The Walking Dead final season and spin-off
When most folks hear news about AMC’s The Walking Dead their first reaction is usually ‘Is that still going?’. Well, it is, but it won’t be for long. At SDCC this year AMC released the trailer for Season 11 part 3. This will finally wrap things up in the twelve-year-old survival adventure series on 2 October 2022.
But don’t think you’ve seen the last of the Walkers. There’s a six-episode spinoff show in the works that aims to reunite Rick Grimes and Michonne in “an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world.” We really hope this amounts to more than just an excuse to drag out the show’s tired premise. We’ll have to wait until next year to find out.
