Once upon a time, the iPhone was a smartphone upstart in the world of feature phones. Once upon a time, Nokia was the undisputed king of cellular. During the transition period, when the two swapped places, Nokia released its Nokia 5800 XpressMusic handset. That phone is being reborn for 2022, in the shape of the Nokia 5710 XpressAudio. Which is a completely different thing. Right?
Yes, but actually, no. Both are devices focused on playing music. Both are, technically, feature phones. Both are basic candybar designs. And the fact that we’re talking about candybar phones in 2022 is proof that history goes in circles.
Music to the Nokia 5710’s ears
But yes, long story short, the reborn Nokia is bringing its new Nokia 5710 to market. That’s not the only device it has on the way, but it is one of the more unusual. We don’t mean the design, so much. The T9 keyboard, 2.4in colour display, plastic construction, and 1,450mAh battery all mark it as a refurbished antique. But it also ships with a set of in-ear buds that live in a charging compartment set into the top of the phone. The buds are supposed to last four hours on a charge. That’s… actually, that’s pretty cool.
There are a few other features. The Nokia 5710 will ship later this year with support for dual SIM cards and 4G capability. 5G would be a little silly for a non-smart device like this, obviously. When it lands (in the UK, at least at first), it’ll cost in the region of R1,200. We could see ourselves parting with some cash for this oddity.

Oh, yes, and there’s also a new tablet on the way. The Nokia T10 is an 8in tablet in the vein of the quite impressive Nokia T20 that we saw a little earlier this year. The 3GB RAM/32GB storage slate will see international release in August this year. We should see it turn up in South Africa shortly afterwards.
