Earlier this week, Fujifilm South Africa announced the latest mirrorless flagship from the Japanese camera company, the X-H2S, together with two new lenses. The spread will touch down in South Africa in early July with a RRP of R40,000.
The new shooter is using a new sensor with a long name. The fifth-generation stacked-layer back-illuminated 26.16MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HS sensor is supposed to be four times faster at reading signals than its predecessor.
This, according to the company, means significantly improved auto-focus speed and accuracy. It also means that for the first time with a Fujifilm product you can record 10bit video at 6.2K30fps or 4K120fps.
A companion for videographers
Improved AF and increased resolution aren’t the only upgrades Fujifilm made over 2018’s X-H1. The company, based on consumer feedback, claims to have given the X-H2S the best moving subject tracking in the whole X-series.
If you’re already in Apple’s ecosystem, you’ll be happy to note that the X-H2S supports three Apple ProRes codecs, ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 422, and ProRes 422 LT. If you don’t speak Apple, you probably don’t need to worry about that.

The X-H2S also supports dual memory cards, which you’ll need if you plan to make use of the 40 frames-per-second burst feature it is capable of. Alternatively, you can set it to shoot at 30fps in JPEG or 20fps in RAW. The X-H2S manages up to 1000 frames continuously using its electric shutter.
See life through a different Fujinon lens
Together with the X-H2S, Fujifilm is also bringing two news lenses to SA. The Fujinon Lens XF150-600mmF5.6-8 R LM OIS WR covers focal lengths from 150mm to 600mm. That’s the most you’ll get from any Fujifilm lens currently. This one will set you back a cool R34,000 when it launches with the X-H2S in July.
The other lens is a versatile piece of kit, perfect for those that like to keep their camera bag light. The Fujinon Lens XF18-120mmF4 LM PZ WR will cover 18mm to 120mm. It is weather-resistant and suitable for landscape and portrait shots, as well as video. This one will take a little longer to get here, landing in September. It will go for R 14, 500 when it does.
