Corsair begins exploring the gaming laptop space with its Voyager notebook

At AMD’s Computex 2022 keynote address, Corsair unveiled its first gaming laptop. The Voyager a1600 features an AMD Ryzen 6000-series CPU and a Radeon RX 6000-series GPU. Specifically, the Ryzen 7 6800HS or a Ryzen 9 6900HS for the CPU and the Radeon RX 6800M GPU. With either configuration, you’ll get up to 64GB of DDR5 memory (Corsair Vengence, no doubt) and 2TB of SSD storage.

Other specs include a 16in 2,560×1,600 240Hz display with variable refresh rate compatibility, a full-sized Cherry MX low-profile keyboard with per-key RGB backlighting, what seems to be a spacious trackpad, and an FHD webcam. Because this is an all-AMD system, it’ll come equipped with a few AMD smarts including Smart Access Memory, Smartshift, and Smart Access Storage.

Voyager’s uncharted waters

corsairThere aren’t many more details going around just yet. Beyond the glaringly obvious Touch Bar that appears in pictures and renders between the keyboard and display.

Of course, Corsair doesn’t call it a Touch Bar. It would hate to incur the same ire as Apple’s version. Instead, Corsair is calling it ‘a row of ten customisable and easy-to-access S-keys’, which doesn’t have the same ring.

The row uses the same software as the Elgato Stream Deck for the S-keys, making it ideal for streamers that need more hotkeys or who are looking to be more mobile. We’re not sure how anyone else will benefit from the extra buttons, but more is better right?

From the images and renders available, it appears that the S-keys will be accessible while the laptop is closed. That could be a nice addition for streamers, but it also introduces the possibility of accidental bumps. But a big company like Corsair would’ve thought of that, right?

The Voyager will be available overseas “this summer” which usually means our winter. After the temperatures this weekend, that could be any day now. No word on pricing yet, but with high-end specs, a 16in display, and a not-Touch Bar it probably won’t be cheap.
