Official Disney+ launch date and pricing for South Africa

Disney+

Disney+ has finally given South Africa an arrival time and a price tag. The Walt Disney Company confirmed that the streaming service will launch on 18 May 2022. The price? R120 per month.

Which is fairly competitive. A standard subscription at Netflix (single viewer) costs R100 per month. There will also be an annual Disney+ subscription available for R1 190.

Disney+ will offer up to four concurrent streams and the ability to set up to seven different user profiles. Users also have unlimited downloads on up to ten devices. Kids’ profiles, with a child-friendly interface, will allow age-appropriate content.

What to expect

According to Disney+, Star Wars’ The Book of Bota Fett and The Mandalorian will be available at launch. Also coming are the various Marvel series’ including Moon Knight, plus pretty much everything else that Disney offers. The Simpsons, The Kardashians, Encanto, The World According to Jeff Goldblum, Cruella, and more will be available to stream in South Africa from mid-May this year.

Disney+ isn’t just coming to South Africa. The service is set to launch in 42 countries over eleven new territories later this year. We’re not about to list which new regions those are, because SA’s getting access. We stopped listening after that.

And, if you’re using multiple streaming services, expect that Disney-owned content will slowly (or rapidly) disappear from them, as licenses revert to the Mouse Company.
