It’s that time of the year again – Multichoice’s DStv has announced its annual subscription price increase. Expect to pay a maximum of R20 more per month this year, depending on your preferred package. The company is also offering yearly payment options, which will trim a bit off that monthly cost if you have the capital.
DStv’s not as greedy (this time)
DStv Premium subscribers will pay R10 more for access to the service’s full service, up to R839pm from R829pm. You can also opt to pay it once-off for the year for just shy of R10,000. That way you’re paying around R769pm.
Move down the subscription tier slightly, and you’ll find that Compact Plus will now cost R549pm (up from R539pm). Compact will now cost R429, up from R409. And DStv Access is up to R120pm from R115pm. For each of those, you have the option to pay for a full year beforehand, minimising costs slightly, and eliminating the need for monthly debit orders completely.
“We realise that customers remain under pressure two years into the Covid-19 pandemic. These adjustments will help us to ensure that South Africans continue to enjoy the best value, and unrivalled access to entertainment, anywhere, anytime, and at the most affordable price,” says Nyiko Shiburi, MultiChoice South Africa CEO.
All the service’s add-ons, like Easyview, Showmax, Add Movies and BoxOffice will remain unchanged for 2022. This includes free access to the streaming service Showmax for subscribers on certain packages. Basically, if you had free access to Showmax before you’ll still have access to Showmax now.
The price increase goes into effect from 1 April 2022.
