It has arrived: the moment gamers have been looking forward to for the better part of a year, E3 2021. After the convention was cancelled last year due to that pesky global pandemic, we welcomed the news that this year the convention will go ahead, albeit entirely online.
Geoff Keighley kicks this year’s event off with his Summer Game Fest, during which we saw a slew of game trailers and announcements. We’ve put together a short list of the biggest announcements so far.
Elden Ring
The long-awaited collaboration between From Software, the studio that brought you Dark Souls, and the person everyone thinks of when you say Game of Thrones: George R.R. Martin. Last night, it showed off its new trailer including gameplay footage and the release date, 21 January 2022.
Death Stranding Director’s Cut
Death Stranding, the “walking simulator” from Hideo Kojima is coming to the PS5 and getting a bit of an overhaul, with all-new content and improved visuals to take advantage of the improved tech.
Jurassic World Evolution 2
Jurassic World Evolution 2, the sequel to the successful management sim, first released in 2018, was announced during the E3 2021 event, with the help of Jeff Goldblum.
Evil Dead: The Game
We got our first look at gameplay for the upcoming Evil Dead: The Game. Narrated by Bruce Cambel himself, we learn that players will need to either survive the undead onslaught as one of the classic Evil Dead heroes or take part in it as one of the baddies (if you’re a that friend).
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
Taking a slightly different approach to the looter-shooter genre, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, a spinoff of the hugely successful Borderlands franchise, is due out early next year. We didn’t see any gameplay but we did learn that Andy Samberg, Wanda Sykes, and Will Arnett will star with Ashley Burch reprising her role from the Borderlands games as Tiny Tina.
Free Guy
The second trailer for the upcoming Ryan Reynolds led film, Free Guy, also saw its release at the Summer Game Fest section of E3 2021. While it’s not actually a video game, it is about ‘Guy’ who exists in a video game world, so we’ll allow it.
There was a whole lot more revealed, shown, or otherwise announced so if you have a spare four hours then you can re-watch the kickoff show here. For other E3 2021 news and announcements keep your eyes peeled and consider signing up through their online portal so you don’t miss a thing.
