Don Manchester City’s kit (and others) in Fortnite

Fortnite, still one of the biggest and hottest crazes on the internet, is uniting with one of the world’s other great passions through a new set of skins. Or rather, it’s Man Uniting. Epic Games has announced a partnership with some of the world’s biggest football clubs that will see plenty of iconic uniforms feature in Fortnite as purchasable skins.

Very clever, Epic Games. Join two fandoms that simply adore spending money on pointless collectibles and memorabilia. How could this not be profitable?

The “Kickoff Set” of skins will allow players to swap and switch between 23 different kits from teams and squads all over the world. There’s a healthy spread of options but let’s be real, 23 doesn’t cover the massive spread of popular teams around the world. Still, there’s good variety. Available uniforms include:

Fortnite? More like Footballnite, right? Right, guys?

The collection of international teams covers Europe, America and Australia, Japan and Brazil. We would have loved to see some South African teams represented in Fortnite but that’s being overly optimistic. Also, not to speak for everyone at Stuff, but Liverpool should be on there.

If none of these kits are scratching your footy itch, then maybe the new emote based on Pelé’s iconic celebration will. It’s clear that Epic Games is going all-in the football crossover as it’s also announced a new themed game mode in Fortnite’s creative mode.

Inspired by the beautiful game (obviously), players will have to ourscore opponents in a “4v4 bracket style game” using a combination of pickaxes, power-ups and their own (digital) flesh and bones. Two rounds are played with the winners of the first bout battling it out for the title of champion and the losers going at it for third and fourth place.

If all of this sounds appealing then get ready to pull out your wallet on 23 January when both the skins and the emote become available. No word yet on when the new game will go live but we imagine it’ll be soon. Now if only Epic Games could settle that massive lawsuit they’re throwing at Apple and Google, then we could enjoy our new skins in peace…
