There’s nothing quite like the scripted chaos of a Hitman game. The only way one could make it any better is if you weren’t staring at the back of Agent 47’s bald head but instead where inside it. That’s the idea behind the VR mode in the upcoming Hitman 3 by IO Interactive. In the game’s VR modeyou’ll be doing everything you’d expect from the franchise: identifying targets, quietly removing guards, donning their outfits and triggering Rube Goldberg-esque traps of chaos.
The most impressive part of this whole thing is that the VR mode isn’t some separate experience that just pulls scenes or moments from the series. Games can play the game in its original form, all in VR. The massively detailed sandboxes stuffed with things and places to discover have all been translated into VR.
Hitman VR we there yet?
If you watched the trailer above you should have a pretty good idea about how cool this is shaping up to be but we haven’t even got to the best part yet. The VR mode isn’t just for Hitman 3, it’s for the entire series. You’ll also be able to go back and play 2016’s Hitman and 2018’s Hitman in VR too. That’s just a great deal, really.
The only downside to all of this is that the VR mode is only coming to the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game despite Hitman 3 launching on Xbox and PC too. While Xbox might not have a VR headset, the launch on Steam could mean VR support will be added to the game at a later stage. One can only hope because ,while PSVR is neat, we’d much rather load this onto an Oculus Quest and have fun from there.
