There are very few characters that withstood the “Mascot Wars” of the late 90’s. While Nintendo has maintained the relevance of Mario over the years and SEGA has…well, they tried their best with Sonic, PlayStation has managed to support some of their beloved characters, through Activision, for longer than anyone expected. While Spyro received a decent polish up with the Re-ignited Trilogy last year, Crash Bandicoot has been even more relevant with 2018’s “N-Sane Trilogy”, which saw the first three Crash games on the PlayStation 1 being remade for current hardware but it doesn’t seem like Activision is finished with the pants-wearing bandicoot just yet.
Developer Toys for Bob and Activision have started teasing Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time with the trailer dropping today, 22 June at 17:00 CAT. While we have to wait until this evening to get a full glimpse at Crash’s latest adventure, information on the “true sequel” has been leaked in the form of screenshots pulled directly from the game show something that’s very in-line with how you remember original Crash Bandicoots playing. Unlike those sequels. We don’t talk about them. They never happened.

The images themselves show off the expected behind-the-back camera of the PlayStation 1 games, the return of some of the more notable villains and give us a look at the updated art-style which looks…fine. Maybe I’m just looking at it with nostalgia goggles. While all we have to gone right now are those leaked images and the short teaser trailer thrown out in a tweet by the official Crash Bandicoot account, we’ll know more in just a few hours. Woah!
