Prior to last night’s announcement, there have only ever been two Halo games released on the PC. That’d be Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2. Everything after that was launched on Microsoft’s Xbox consoles exclusively. Until now. Microsoft has announced that PC gamers will get their twitchy trigger fingers on Halo: The Master Chief Collection shortly. What’s more, it’ll be available via Steam.
The game will also be available (for PC) on Microsoft’s own store, because there’s no sense in giving away all of the revenue stream. The compilation contains several games: Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST (Campaign), and Halo 4. Microsoft’s also spicing up the collection for console players. Both the Xbox and PC platforms will have 2010’s Halo: Reach added to the Master Chief Collection. Xbox One X fans will have an upgraded experience (60fps with 4K/UHD support) to look forward to when the updated game lands on the compilation later this year.
Do your duty
You can check out the Steam page for the moment but Halo: The Master Chief Collection isn’t available as a purchase or pre-purchase on PC just yet. There’s no detail on its launch date, the title is just billed as ‘coming soon’. Still, the moment we can get our hands on a mouse-controlled Master Chief we can show those console players how the game was meant to be played.
The wait PC players are facing is the result of Microsoft porting the games over the right way. The company is tweaking controls and graphics settings — items that are far more important to PC gamers than console players. Probably because folks on the PC are used to having them, we guess? This means that PC gamers will first get access to Reach, before the rest of the game is released in chronological order. Shooter fanatics will also be able to purchase each game individually too, so there’s that.
