You'll often catch me dreaming of a Wind Waker remaster. Or sleeping. One of the two.

At this point, the team behind Sonic the Hedgehog has one shining memory – Green Hill Zone from the series’ first-ever game. It makes sense that Sonic’s return to Lego form, after the repellent 2016 Lego Dimensions run and the rather chic recreation of Green Hill Zone last year, would be yet another rehash of the iconic level. We’re not complaining though. See, this isn’t just another set that’s meant to sit on the shelf. Lego’s latest sets featuring the blue hedgehog are actually meant to be played with. Well, all four of them are. Yup, Lego is massively expanding…

It’s been a fortnight since the Department of Energy handed the country its latest round of petrol price changes, which saw diesel drivers saving R0.75c/l while petrol drivers were neither granted amnesty nor were they punished. Considering South Africa’s recent track record, it’s hard to complain about a 1c increase – no matter who you are. But that’s in the past. The Department of Energy is set to pass judgement on the country’s fuel prices once again on Wednesday, 3 May. This time petrol drivers may not get off so easily. At least, that’s what the Central Energy Fund’s data…

Remember that Basic with Ads tier Netflix introduced a few months ago? No? We aren’t surprised. South Africa – for some unknown reason – was left off the list of participating countries, with still no word on when or even if we’ll see the new category. SA wasn’t too fussed, though. Sure, it’s “cheap” – but it introduced limitations that many believed unworthy of the $7 price tag (us included). According to Netflix’s Q1 ‘letter to investors’, we might just have to change our minds. Want a break from Netflix? Before, the streamer’s ‘with-ads’ tier limited users to one stream…

The Competition Commission of South Africa (CCSA) has given the green light for Anchorage – a subsidiary of Microsoft – to acquire Activision Blizzard. And, more importantly, without any additional conditions tacked on. The Commission met on Tuesday, 11 April to discuss the acquisition, officially confirming its decision on Monday. Why all the hubbub, bub? For the unaware, Microsoft’s conquest to own the Call of Duty franchise hasn’t been a short or easy one. Back in January 2022, the company announced its intent to acquire Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion in January, as part of an all-cash deal. Sony… Well,…

It’s been nearly two years since Nintendo last released a console; the Nintendo Switch OLED, an upgrade to the Big N’s regular old Nintendo Switch. Considering the original Switch’s age, having passed its sixth birthday in March, you’d think picking the right one of the two should be a pretty straightforward task. Anyone familiar with Nintendo will know that this isn’t the case. And we haven’t even mentioned the Switch’s firstborn spin-off: the Switch Lite. That one’s a little easier to discern from the rest of the pack for the more-experienced Nintendo shills. But for new players? It only adds…

Remember God of War Ragnarök? Sure you do. It was one of 2022’s best games and won just about every Game of the Year award it could, though the top spot still ended up going to FromSoftware’s Elden Ring. It had everything it needed to sweep second place, but still, fans felt it was missing something: a New Game+ mode. Ragnarök’s latest update is a substantial one, not merely adding a run-of-the-mill NG+, but throwing in new armour, enchantments and even a glorious-looking black-and-white mode. Hints are still around New Game Plus is available in God of War Ragnarök now.…

April is the month of the Earth (and price hikes, we guess), and Xbox knows it. With Earth Day around the corner (22 April), Xbox has announced a new wireless controller – the Remix Special Edition. Wondering how a new, more expensive controller has anything to do with Earth Day? Well, each controller is partly made up of recyclable materials, lessening the gaming giant’s impact on the environment. Fresh out of the Xbox More specifically, a third of each controller is made up of old CDs, headlight covers, water jugs, and other controllers. What you get in return is a…

Have you ever watched the hope drain from another person’s eyes? No? Then you’ve probably never played a round of Exploding Kittens before. Or perhaps you’ve only ever played the game of detonating felines online through Netflix’s suite of mobile games – giving your opponent the chance to hide their shame of suffering yet another loss. But that doesn’t have to be the case anymore. Facebook has announced it is bringing online multiplayer games to its Messenger video calls. You can always blame the WiFi The news comes from Facebook Gaming, which recently saw its dedicated gaming app shuttered only…

It’s already that time of the month. South Africa’s Department of Energy has passed judgement on the country’s already-struggling fuel prices. Anyone that’s kept up with the Central Energy Fund’s predictions throughout March will be please to note that they were right. For those that haven’t kept up, we’ll summarize; diesel prices are down — way down — and petrol prices… they’re virtually unchanged. That, in itself, is a win. Things were looking rough for the country’s fuel prices at the beginning of March. But, a strengthening Rand (and depreciating stages of load shedding) have greatly contributed to the decrease…

Polyamory isn’t for everybody. Well… by definition it could be, but in this case we’re specifically talking about the new relationship between Vodacom Business, WiTaxi and Netstar. The end goal of this partnership is to bring free WiFi to South Africa’s taxi industry. Good things come in threes The idea is a simple one. Vodacom provides the WiFi, Netstar provides trackers for taxis (that double as routers) and WiTaxi brings the app that ties it all together. The point is to give passengers a chance to make something of a journey that would have otherwise been spent in the clutches…
