You'll often catch me dreaming of a Wind Waker remaster. Or sleeping. One of the two.

Now that Spotify technically offers lossless streaming, the platform has turned to new methods to attract paying customers (and to keep the current ones engaged). It’s doing so with the help of ‘Smart Reorder’, a new setting that’ll intelligently adjust your playlist’s tracks according to their beats per minute (BPM) and key. Lowkey, this beat slaps When Spotify first dropped off X, the AI DJ at our doorsteps, this was kind of what we were hoping for. Hell, even the streamer’s new mixing tools were a bit of a letdown for newbies. Letting something a little smarter take over the job is…

On Uber’s quest to become a little more three-dimensional, the e-hailing company has previewed its helicopter-like air taxis on its menu, joining its car, motorcycle, and boat services. It’s doing so with the help of Joby Aviation, a start-up responsible for building the machines, leaving Uber to gather customers via its app. Uber-cool taxis That shouldn’t be tricky for Uber Air, as the company is calling it. While not available to the public yet, Uber confirmed that the service would become available to residents in Dubai before the end of the year. Some folks managed to get a good look…

Privacy-conscious Saffas don’t yet have to contend with smart glasses getting all up in their business, but our time is coming. It may not be today or tomorrow, but the ubiquity of camera-laden smart glasses like Meta’s (and eventually Apple, Huawei, and OpenAI…) is inevitable. When that day comes, you’ll want a new app called ‘Nearby Glasses’ that’ll warn you when someone nearby is wearing a pair of the bloody things. “I consider it to be a tiny part of resistance against surveillance tech,” said the app’s developer, Yves Jeanrenaud, in a conversation with 404Media. “The app is free, open…

It’d be a bit of a waste to develop the first touchscreen MacBook and not include one of the Fruit Company’s better ideas from the past decade: the Dynamic Island. The interactive little black pill that disguises your iPhone’s selfie camera first turned up in the iPhone 14 Pro lineup, and the company hasn’t looked back ever since. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reckons that Apple’s incoming MacBooks are due a pretty big upgrade: OLED. Specifically, the company’s 14- and 16in MacBook Pros will be the first to see such an upgrade, with their own little Dynamic Island embedded at the top of the…

Some people may say that dropping R7,800 on a wireless speaker is a bad idea. Not Stuff, but people. But what if that speaker was something… more? Say, the eternal resting place of your nana? That’s good, because Spotify and Liquid Death have teamed up to develop that very thing: an urn that doubles as a Bluetooth speaker. No, really. But can it run Doom? https://youtu.be/2QXRyGBDFME It’s possible that this was the work of some lowly intern at Spotify HQ accidentally hitting ‘publish’ on the streamer’s next April Fool’s joke a little early, but the $500 listing on Liquid Death’s…

The Xbox gamers who suffered at the hands of Microsoft’s Game Pass price hike in October last year may want to cover their eyes for this one. Xbox, in its infinite wisdom, hopes to dig itself out of the trench it’s currently bleeding out in by adding even more services under the Game Pass Ultimate umbrella. Riding the Game Pass gravy train On the surface, that sounds like a pretty good idea. The news hasn’t come from Xbox, but rather The Verge’s Tom Warren, who heard through the grapevine that Microsoft is considering ways to bundle third-party services with Game Pass…

The PlayStation TV (or the PlayStation Vita TV, as it’s known across Asia) never took off, did it? That might have something to do with the fact that it allowed users to play certain Vita games — one of Sony’s most under-represented bits of hardware… ever — on their TV using a DualShock 3 or 4 controller. It was a novel idea, and also one of the earliest proponents for Remote Play with the PS4. Now, it could make a comeback. It’s a pen! It’s an earbud! No, it’s… AI-powered speakers? We’ll take just about any excuse to dredge up the above image of OpenAI head Sam Altman and Apple’s former chief design officer, Jony Ive. That might be different if there were any other image — like of the supposed hardware the pair are developing — but so far, that hasn’t happened yet. Rumours have flown for months about what that product will eventually look like, ranging from a pen to some earbuds. Now, the story is changing again. According to The Information, it seems that the 200-strong team dedicated to bringing…
