You'll often catch me dreaming of a Wind Waker remaster. Or sleeping. One of the two.

It’s no secret that Stuff isn’t exactly a big fan of PlayStation’s latest cash grab, the Portal. We called it a “good way to throw away $200” back when PlayStation had only just titled the thing and a dollar value was all we had to work with. That’s just changed. We now have a South African price to point to and laugh at, along with an official release date for the shelf packers to look forward to – 21 February 2024. Portal to bankruptcy Once it’s sat on those shelves, it’ll require a sacrifice of R5,500 to take it home with you.…

Kiss just won’t go away If you, like us (and hopefully many others), spent too long believing that Kiss was some elaborate joke concocted by the hilariously unfunny film, Role Models, we’ve got some news. Kiss is real, and its four lead members are saying farewell – this time for good, kind of. Kiss – the make-up-clad men that proved Rock and Roll wasn’t only for the cool kids – are leaving behind four digital avatars as part of the band’s “new era.” You’d be forgiven for thinking we were pulling a bit from Idiocracy or something similar, but this is real.…

It’s almost impossible to believe, but your calendar isn’t lying; we really are in December 2023. That means a bunch of different things – the most important being the collective’s year of music, recapped. Spotify’s Wrapped, Apple’s Replay and YouTube’s Music Recap are all officially live as of yesterday. If you aren’t being spoon-fed a list of all the songs and genres you listened to over the year, how can you be sure you did any of that? Spotify was the first of the big streamers to make a simple year-end round-up such a big deal. It’s bright, colourful, detailed,…

Gaming on the Xbox Store Just about everybody is getting in on mobile games. Most are happy to let Google and Apple run the show, happy to be part of the fun and raking in a sizeable fee. Just yesterday, Netflix announced that it was bolstering its library of mobile games with three GTA games. Not Microsoft, though. The Xbox owner is reportedly discussing the idea of its own mobile gaming store — separate from the App or Play Store — according to Phil Spencer, head of video games at Xbox. “It’s an important part of our strategy and something we…

After the tirade of Black Friday deals (some of which are still live as of today), the last thing we feel like doing is whipping out our debit and credit cards again. We’re not data-hungry MTN customers however, which is the sort of people the African mobile network is targeting with the new launch of “Super Data bundles” under the Super Data price plan that launched back in June. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s… Super Data? Those of you who chew through more than a typical user’s data allotment might want to take notes. “This…

Tomorrow is a big day. Not only is Andrew Tate turning 37 but, more importantly, Google will begin its cleanout of two-year-old inactive accounts. Chances are high that you have more than one Google account to your name, some of which have probably been collecting digital cobwebs for the last two years. If you’re interested in holding on to them, you’ll want to find their login details before Google begins to enforce its newly updated inactive account policy. Google’s on your case Those new rules were first announced in May, with the search giant telling users to mark down the…

Paint is… fun again? If you didn’t while away hours of schooling career randomly screwing around on Microsoft Paint, did you really have a childhood? In our books, no. Possibly the most iconic of Microsoft’s programs just got a major update that’ll see it survive another generation or two: AI. It’s called Cocreator, but its true nature is that of DALL-E 3, and it’ll land on the Paint app soon. It was only a matter of time, really. Microsoft has so many fingers dipped into AI pies that it’ll eventually be news when a product doesn’t have some sort of…

Not so long ago, we felt “cautiously optimistic” about South Africa’s prospects. Load shedding was down, and the Central Energy Fund’s (CEF) latest round of diesel and petrol predictions looked promising. Two weeks on, and things aren’t looking so good. Eskom is back in full force and the Rand is doing… something. Fortunately (for us), the country’s many other faults haven’t yet infected December’s predicted fuel prices. South Africa is still on track to see that R2+ drop in diesel prices we initially reported back in mid-November. Petrol drivers don’t have much to fear, either, as the CEF’s latest chunk…

AI gets a new Runway You might be tired of the constant spew of AI news, but it isn’t going away. Every company with a working bank account is in on the hype. Some are producing some rather extraordinary tech. One such company is Runway, and it’s just stepped up AI’s game. Specifically, it just launched the second generation of its Motion Brush tool, which brings aspects of a still image to life in just a couple of seconds. It’s capable of animating small stuff, like the swirling smoke from a cigarette or a bird’s early morning stretch. It’s best…

After MultiChoice’s announcement of a vastly improved Showmax hitting the small screens sometime in February 2024, we believed that the company’s next big announcement would have to detriment customers somehow. Nope. This morning, the broadcaster owner announced that it would be adding ESPN 1 – a major sports channel in the US – to DStv Access. Enter ESPN That might not sound like big news, but it is. Before, the ESPN 1 channel was limited to DStv Compact, Compact Plus, and Premium, with a minimum price requirement of R450/m. DStv Access is the company’s significantly cheaper entry-level package, with prices…
