What happens to your Facebook account after you die? In reality, not much. If Meta gets its way, however, it could keep a dead person’s account active by employing an AI to impersonate the user. That’s the gist of the idea Meta filed a patent for back in 2023, which was recently granted. There’s no possible way this will be used to pretend it’s not losing Facebook users.* The patent, filed by Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth, notes how a large language model (LLM) may step in if it detects a user’s Facebook or Instagram account has been inactive for longer…

We don’t exactly feel like the PlayStation 5 has been stretched to its limit since it dropped in 2020, which makes the Bloomberg report detailing a potential PS6 delay into either 2028 or 2029 that much sweeter. More immediately concerning are the rumours of Nintendo’s current-gen efforts facing a price hike, all thanks to the rising costs of memory globally that’ll make producing the Switch 2 — or the PS6 — more costly. It’s always AI’s fault The news comes less than a month after Nintendo threw its customers a bone by knocking the local price down a grand to R11,500.…
Apple has officially invited certain members of the media to a special in-person event in early March, where it’s expected to clear out its cupboard of any overage before it can get to the ‘good stuff’ later this year. That means, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, we’ll likely see the new low-cost MacBook — which could prove to be a boon during these trying times — plus a couple ‘new’ iPads, and the iPhone 17e. Big Mac attack It’s that last one that interests us most, which follows up the budget-centric iPhone 16e. Debuting last year for a price far…
Standard Bank, wasting no time in complying with the Department of Home Affairs’ (DHA) wishes, has confirmed the phased rollout of Smart ID services at several of its branches dotted around the country. Better yet, the South African bank will waive any convenience and logistics fees for all its customers during the initial launch. Take it to the Standard Bank Customers will still have to whip out their wallets to cover the standard DHA application fee of R140. The new branches, kitted out with DHA powers, will offer both first-time application and renewal services at launch. At the time of…
Samsung’s foldables are going far and wide That right there is your first ‘look’ at Samsung’s first crack at expanding its range of Galaxy Z foldables, thanks to the folks at Android Authority. The device, rumours of which have floated around for several months now, will reportedly take the shape of the South Korean outfit’s Galaxy Z Fold, though with a far wider screen than before. The render was captured in some of the recent OneUI 9 builds, the next big update after OneUI 8.5 dropped. The animations depicted on Android Authority correlate to some of the first mentions of the ‘Wide’…
With the first half of February officially behind us, it’s time we started taking the Central Energy Fund’s (CEF) latest daily petrol price snapshots a little more seriously. Unfortunately, South Africa’s source for any upcoming fuel price adjustments hasn’t come bearing good news. In fact, it’s what we’d call bad news, if you can believe it. Take your time, March… We know the diesel drivers can. During the first batch of CEF predictions, which came about last week, the energy company teased a price increase for diesel drivers in March 2026. Petrol drivers, on the other hand, were led to believe…
If you actually use the Kindle Scribe range the way it’s meant to be used — as an overly large note-taker that happens to double as an ereader — then you’ll probably be keen to try out the new features Amazon has. Even if you somehow skipped the headline, anybody with half a brain could guess what’s being chucked in here. The Scribe gets smart(er) If you said AI, then well done. If you said something else, then you need to get with the times. Amazon is just one of many companies heaping more and more AI services onto its…
If you were already tucked in at midnight instead of tuning into PlayStation’s State of Play, we don’t blame you. If it weren’t for Sony promising more than 60 minutes of footage (and Nintendo’s own Direct leaving us a little starved), we’d have been right there alongside you. In the end, it was worth the (really long) wait. We’ve amassed all the biggest reveals, announcements, and trailers from the night. We realise we may have missed a couple of things from the full list, and that’s okay. We’ve skipped over some of those titles we’ve already seen at other such…
Not long after Nintendo teased what it’s got on the cards for 2026, PlayStation has followed suit. Yesterday, the Japanese gaming conglomerate announced its first State of Play of the year, promising more than 60 (?!) minutes of footage featuring “news, gameplay updates, and announcements from game studios across the globe.” A fool’s State of Play… Oh, and it’s taking place on Thursday, 12 February. This is the part when you add it to your calendar if you’re at all interested in checking out what’s in store for the year ahead. Daring Saffas will technically want to mark down 00h00…
Apple’s AirPod family has done just about everything it could without needlessly stuffing overpriced tech where it doesn’t belong. It was only a matter of time before the Fruit Company retroactively morphed these premium earbuds into AI-toting wearables, and now it seems like that time has finally come. A little early, for our liking. Ambitious AirPods That’s because Apple’s still having trouble getting its artificial intelligence ambitions off the ground without Google stepping in to help. If it can get that side under control, though, we’d be on board for what’s coming to the next generation of AirPods Pro –…
