Today marks the soft launch of Avatar: Generations, a turn-based RPG made for iOS and Android. And no, we don’t mean James Cameron’s Avatar. We’re talking about the infinitely better Avatar: The Last Airbender series that the game is based on. Square Enix London and Nickelodeon announced the game will see a soft launch in a small handful of countries today, and South Africa is one of them. Only four countries are receiving the game early; South Africa, Sweden, Canada and Denmark. The rest of the world will see the game hit their local App and Play Stores over the…

Anker’s latest portable charger – the PowerCore 24K – is truly a friend of load shedding victims and travellers. It’s housing a 24,000mAh battery, capable of receiving 140W of power while dishing out the same power to connected devices. With that kind of power, it’ll manage a 50% charge on a 16in MacBook Pro in just 40 minutes. That should be enough to hold you over for a couple of hours of load shedding. Anker down during load shedding It uses the new Power Delivery 3.1 standard allowing for a greater than 100W (Anker’s previous limit) output from a single…
After August brought South Africa its first petrol price cut in months, September has some big shoes to fill. And, according to the Central Energy Fund’s stats, it could be on track to do just that. Investec’s chief economist Annabel Bishop also believes that inflation may be slightly lower than originally expected, leading to a big cut where it matters most – petrol prices. Wake me up when August ends On Wednesday, Bishop posted her monthly predictions, stating that South Africa is seeing lower food inflation prices, with grains as the leading factor. Because of this, Bishop expects purchasing price and…

Disney+ in the States is seeing a massive price hike come December. Big Mickey announced the hike yesterday, but so far it only applies to the U.S. There’s no word on how this could affect other countries yet. As South Africa has recently seen the launch of Disney+, we’re hoping that Disney overlooks us – at least for a couple of months. An increase of 38% is on its way. The hike takes place on 8 December, increasing a monthly sub from $8 to $11. That’s nearly an R50 increase in South African terms. The pricing restructure gives the company…
The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) has released an app, built for users to report and (potentially) see potholes fixed around the country. Its launch follows Operation Vala Zonke, a large-scale program to fix up the potholes in South Africa. The app is officially known as the SANRAL Pothole App. Not imaginative, perhaps, but descriptive. Fikile Mbalula, SA’s transport minister has said the app is available to download on the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store. Unfortunately, there appears to be an issue regarding the app’s release on the Play Store. At the time of writing, the SANRAL…
WhatsApp is currently working on making its app more private, announcing a series of updates and giving us a timeframe for when to expect them. We’ve already heard of a few of these, via a number of beta tests in recent months. Being in beta, there was always the chance that some of the features WhatsApp has just confirmed would never turn up. Official acknowledgment makes a difference. Here are the three new features we can expect from the service in the next few weeks. Why weren’t these added years ago? Your privacy deserves more protection. That’s why we’re excited…
We all know the feeling. Sore, cramped, and sweaty feet are often the symptoms of going for a run. Freeing your feet from their memory foam cages is the best part after finishing a run. Besides being healthy and feeling accomplished, and endorphins… Asics’ Actibreeze 3D hopes to help take care of those uncomfortable feet. The company decided that a 3D-printed sandal was the way to go. You might think they look funny. You’d be right. They’re not hideous. But they’re not overly attractive either. But the Actibreeze 3Ds aren’t meant to be a fashion statement (we’re sure there’s a…
WhatsApp is working on an update that should add extra security in an attempt to stop account thieves. The feature inserts an additional log-in prompt to stop unwanted account migration. The update is still in development, though a beta probably isn’t far off. Once complete, the update will make its way to WhatsApp’s entire suite. The incoming update was found and shared by WABetaInfo. “It’s a simple spell but quite unbreakable” WhatsApp hijackings should be fall after the update, by asking users to accept the switch of devices on an account. Once someone has tried breaking into and migrating an…
On Friday, Twitter admitted to a fault in its code that caused the breach of users’ private data. The code became vulnerable in June last year, with Twitter only becoming aware of the issue in January. The code was fixed, but the damage is done. Bugged down The vulnerability was first discovered by a security researcher, who reported the fault through Twitter’s bug bounty program. After fixing the error, Twitter didn’t feel a need to warn its 396 million users of the breach claiming there was “no evidence” it had been exploited. Twitter then learned that a ‘bad actor’ had…
