It’s been more than two years since the last in-person Comic Con event, and the hype is starting to boil over. Comic Con Africa likes to make each event bigger than its last, and it’s no different for 2022. This year we’ll be pulling up to the Johannesburg Expo Centre, with three halls of nerdiness to explore. From gaming, celebrities (there are a few you won’t want to miss) cosplay, and comic books, 22 to 25 of September is shaping up to be a perfect weekend. Artists Alley A staple of Comic Con Africa is the Artists Alley. There’s usually…

Sony is stepping into the world of mobile games after spinning off a separate Sony Studios Mobile Division which has acquired Savage Game Studios. The co-founders of Savage previously worked at Zynga, Insomniac, and Wargaming. New games from the devs will focus on PlayStation IP, both new and existing. Sony’s end goal is to expand all of its existing IPs to PC, TV, movies, and now, mobile. Earlier this year, Sony said it wanted to put half of its IPs on PC and mobile by 2025. We’re only three years away, which means Sony has plenty of work in its…
Logitech G[aming] is bringing an update to its most popular gaming mouse – The G502. The thing is; we’re in 2022. It’s against the rules to release a device, singular. There has to be a minimum of two models, either adding the word Plus or Extra to the name. Logitech understands these rules. A trio of mice is coming, aptly named the G502 X series. Under the umbrella, we have the G502 X, G502 X Lightspeed, and the G502 X Plus. Three blinding mice The X series takes the base G502 and brings it up to 2022. The headline change…
The PS5 is a monster in both stature and heft. If you have still not held a PlayStation 5 yourself, you’ll have to take our word on it. It’s heavy. Really heavy. It makes sense, considering what it contains inside its massive shell. But Sony is working to make its flagship console lighter wherever it can. For the second year in a row, an updated PS5 model is hitting shelves, along with a significant weight reduction. It still doesn’t justify the price hikes Sony is forcing on us in the near future. In this corner, we have the middleweight champion…
Over the last week, we’ve been treated to a slew of videogame news, courtesy of Gamescom. There was no shortage of videogame announcements and release dates over the five-day event, which had its final day on Sunday. If you were lucky enough to attend in the flesh, we detest you a little more than anyone else. If you weren’t in Germany over the weekend, it’s possible some of the best announcements and release dates slipped through the cracks. That’s why we’re here. To show you the best Gamescom had to offer. Sony has us all on Edge First up is…
sineSouth Africans and Eskom have developed a love-hate relationship over the past decade. Eskom loves to haemorrhage South African money and South Africans hate Eskom. There isn’t much we can do about the state power utility, leaving us to explore other avenues to have power when we’d like it. Generators, solar panels, and inverters have become the best solutions to solve the issue at hand. One of the more mysterious devices is the inverter. Choosing an inverter can be confusing at times, thanks to the difference between modified and pure sine models. Whether it’s preinstalled in your generator of choice…
Xbox’s incoming Xbox Game Pass family plan could include the ability to share with friends as well, rather than just family members. There’s a catch: subscriptions may only be shared with family and friends in the same country. This isn’t a dealbreaker – far from it. In most cases, friends and family already share the same country. Time to get an Xbox The news comes from leaker Aggiornamenti Lumia, who tweeted out an image that showed the company’s potential branding for Game Pass. “Friends and Family” appears under the Game Pass logo, showing us where Xbox wants Game Pass to…
South Africa may finally call the time of death on e-tolls. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana could be the one to end the project entirely during his Medium Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) presentation in October. Keep those expectations low, however — this isn’t a done deal. But there’s no harm in keeping your fingers crossed. The (potential) death of e-tolls The Automobile Association (AA) says that if the government doesn’t cancel the project entirely, it will continue to bleed money. The AA also said the government should reimburse the fees paid over the years and cancel the outstanding debt. And…
Applications are currently open for Sasol’s all-inclusive bursaries for 2023. Sasol said it would be on the lookout for students that perform especially well in the field of mathematics and science. If you think that might be you, Sasol invites you to apply for the bursary to continue in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). So get moving, now. No, really. There are only 200 of them up for grabs. There’s pocket money? This isn’t Sasol’s first foray into the bursary world. Sasol has been handing these out for more than 30 years now, choosing the best…
Earlier this week, Google made a change to how “Hey Google” works, avoiding accidental activations during a meeting. The change was announced on Google’s blog, stating that “Hey Google” voice activation would be disabled during a meeting and ten minutes before it begins. This way, meetings won’t be interrupted as often as they were before. Google also added the voice functionality to more Meet devices, like the Logitech Rally Bar/Mini. It’s always ‘Hey Google’ and never ‘How is Google?’ “We know “Hey Google” voice control provides an easy and convenient way to join an upcoming meeting, or to help improve…
