You'll often catch me dreaming of a Wind Waker remaster. Or sleeping. One of the two.

Calling all cricket fans: this Friday marks the first round of the Proteas’ journey through the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. South Africa’s women’s Protea team, and this year’s, are looking to outperform their last showing where the team reached the semi-finals in the 2020 World Cup in Australia. A win would go down nicely. This year’s tournament is the first senior ICC World Cup to be held on South African soil since 2007, and a first for the Women’s team entirely. As the hosts, South Africa will be the first to step onto the pitch against Sri Lanka on…

A slew of new status features have arrived on WhatsApp, after spending quite some time in the Google Play Beta Programme. Plenty of users have already received the update, though it could take a couple of weeks before everyone can access them, according to Meta. Since the introduction of statuses back in 2017, there hasn’t yet been an update as major as this one. WhatsApp is adding a private audience selector, voice statuses, emoji reactions, status rings, and link previews to all devices in the coming weeks. The Private Audience Selector The private audience selector is changing how users select who…

There was once a time – many years ago – when WhatsApp limited the number of pictures, videos, or files people could send to each other in the same message. Then, 2017 rolled around and WhatsApp increased the limit, allowing up to 30 images to be sent all at once. It’s been six years since the last major media update – it’s time to increase that limit again, don’t you think? WhatsApp 100 Meta is working on just that. In addition to being able to send media in its original quality, the limit is being raised yet again. Soon users…

Today is the day. Hogwarts Legacy is finally here. Well, if you pre-ordered the game. If you had the cojones to do so, you’ll be extremely glad to know that the risk paid off. We would know. We got to review the thing. If you, like many, didn’t pre-order Hogwarts Legacy just in case the reviews were… sub-optimal, you’ll be stuck waiting until this Friday to start your journey at Hogwarts. But that’s okay. Friday is only three days away (depending on when you’re reading this). Until then, there are a bunch of other Harry Potter games to hold you…

Last week SoutH Africa was hit by the Department of Energy’s (DoE) latest petrol price increase, which was, fortunately not as bad as in previous months. According to the Central Energy Fund (CEF), March might not be quite so forgiving, with the potential for a R1+ increase in petrol prices and a smaller, still worrying R0.50+ increase for diesel. The CEF’s data — captured on 6 February — isn’t official by any means. It makes its predictions based on the ever-changing US Dollar/Rand exchange rate and the current prices of oil glObally. It’s just that those aren’t looking fantastic at…

It finally happened. We got our letter to Hogwarts. By that, we mean we finally got our Hogwarts Legacy review code. Essentially though, it’s the same thing. Hogwarts Legacy is such a wonderful excursion into the world that was built nearly 25 years ago that it almost feels as if we were actually invited to attend Hogwarts and its surroundings (of which there is plenty). It takes the world from the original books and beautifully weaves an entirely new story into it. All while managing to keep Harry Potter’s name out of its mouth. For years, Avalanche Studios, makers of Just…

“Who’s a good bot? You are!” Responding to feedback, Twitter will enable a light, write-only API for bots providing good content that is free — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) February 5, 2023 It’s been less than a week since Elon Musk locked Twitter’s API behind a paywall and, as ever, Musk has once again moved the goalposts, stating that bots providing “good content” will be allowed to stay. Eligible bots (according to who?) will have access to a “light, write-only” API instead of paying the $100/m fee that was initially discussed. At the time, Musk justified the company’s stance by claiming…

We’re almost there, just a couple more hours until the first month of 2023 is over. Usually, we’d feel better about that – what with our bank accounts feeling somewhat happier than they did over the Christmas break. But we’re not so happy. After what was a beautiful start to the year with an R2+ decrease in prices, the Department of Energy is back to its old ways. We’re officially getting another petrol and diesel price increase. So, while the day is still young, quickly head out to the nearest petrol station and fill up. Or, if you can stomach…

Fidelity ADT, a security company in South Africa is pairing up with Vumacam to launch a R60 million SafeCity initiative that’ll see around 1,850 new (and functioning) security cameras spread across Joburg. 350 of these are being installed in areas that have never had cameras security before. So, if you’ve got a specific destination in mind where all your dodgy dealings go down, you might want to avoid heading back there for a while. At least until all the cameras are either stolen or stop working. Next Friday should work. Joburg is watching Through the SafeCity initiative, the 7,000 already-installed…

It’s not often that the world sees a laptop that isn’t trying to do one of two things; unlock some hitherto unknown sensitivity towards flashing lights or pierce its new owner’s skin with its sharpened edges. That’s (more or less) what you get with the latest gaming laptops, though more and more ‘business-centric’ brands have begun swaying their design teams towards whatever they think is the ‘new look’. Dell is different. It has no issues releasing a clean, yet still plain-looking laptop. It proved as much with the Inspiron 16 5620. It would much rather just let the internals speak…
