This past weekend saw the anniversary of the first-ever YouTube video, uploaded on 23 April 2005. Titled ‘Me at the zoo’, the video has gone on to garner over 228 million views since its debut. Posted by YouTube co-founder Jawed Karim, the video is about as low quality as it gets, both in terms of looks and effort. Of course, it gets a pass, since it helped build the foundation YouTube currently stands atop. If you’re curious to see the video, here it is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNQXAC9IVRw In honour of this insane achievement, we’ve compiled a list of the 15 most-watched videos…
Sonos is reportedly planning to release a new soundbar designed for those looking for quality audio on a budget. It currently has no official title but goes by the codename ‘Fury’. ‘Budget’ doesn’t normally come to mind when you think of Sonos. The projected price point for the soundbar of about R4,000 ($250) could mark a change for the brand. If these leaks are accurate, that is. An official launch is expected on 7 June. In the meantime, here’s what we know. Structurally sound Since Fury is yet to be announced, we have yet to see any official images. There…
Since turning up in SA, Vivo’s reach has grown at a rapid pace. The company hopes to keep its growth going by launching its first standalone service centre in Cape Town. Based in Canal Walk, the store is the first in the Western Cape to offer varied after-sale support for the brand. Its launch comes just two weeks after South Africa saw the company’s Y76 5G handset launched. It’s easy to see why Vivo felt the need to plant its feet deep in South Africa. According to Jeff Cao, CEO of Vivo South Africa, the company placed fifth in the…
Back in 2019, the University of Johannesburg (UJ) launched an all-new virtual certificate system to help students more easily check their qualifications. The idea behind the innovation was simple: Letting graduates access their certificates digitally and securely while simplifying sharing credentials with potential employers. When the system was implemented in 2019, UJ was the first institution in South Africa to offer digital certificates. But that was back in 2019. Now, UJ feels that another addition is in order. Why? To further bolster the security of their graduates’ certificates. How? By implementing blockchain-based features for the current digital system. QRn’t going…
With the COVID-19 pandemic, the field of telemedicine has taken on the challenge of improving the way doctors can reach people. NASA has also been busy in the telemedicine space, always looking for fresh ways to keep their astronauts healthy when off-world. Telemedicine – for those who don’t know – is the remote diagnosis and treatment of patients with the help of telecommunications technology. And it seems all that hard work has paid off. Back in October 2021, NASA flight surgeon Dr. Josef Schmid, AEXA Aerospace CEO Fernando De La Pena Llaca, and their teams were “holoported” from Earth into…

Live your best life with live Possibly the best and most important feature on FIFA+ is the ability to live…
Don’t you hate it when you’re finishing up the latest hit show on Netflix and load shedding suddenly strikes? Us too. If you’re lucky enough to lay hands on Anker’s 757 Powerhouse, this scenario becomes nothing more than a bad dream. The bad news is that Anker hasn’t said (yet) whether its 757 Powerhouse will ship to South Africa. We’re awfully keen on seeing it in person, for electricity reasons Anker’s 757 Powerhouse boasts some great specs. There’s 1,500W of power and 1,229Wh of capacity contained within its Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery. Anker promises that the Powerhouse’s battery charges…
