Can you believe it’s been nearly six months since Elon Musk made the offer to completely buy out Twitter? We can. And that’s because we’ve had a non-stop torrent of news concerning Elon Musk’s pullout game. Finally, the story has come to a head – with Musk agreeing to buy Twitter for $54.20 per share (again). Please make a u-turn here Yesterday, Musk’s representatives sent a letter to Twitter confirming their boss’s intent to get the deal over the finish line. “We write to notify you that the Musk Parties intend to proceed to closing of the transaction contemplated by…

Andre de Ruyter, Eskom’s CEO, has said South Africans can look forward to an ease in load shedding over the coming days. He attributes the good news to the restoration of multiple generation units expected to start producing power again over the next ten days. Still, we should be limiting our expectations where we can. This is Eskom we’re talking about. The moment the first speckles of rain hit the ground we’ll be writing headlines like “Eskom confirms stage 6 load shedding due to wet coal.” Please Eskom, don’t make us do that. Stage 4 load shedding until further notice…
August brought us news that Meta was working on adding three new privacy changes. Well, two months later, WhatsApp is finally ready to release ‘view once’ screenshot blocking into the world. Why this wasn’t added at the time of view once’s inception, we couldn’t tell you. Better late than never, right? For your eyes (once) only Some users have already received the update (v2.22.22.3 or later). The rest of us will need to wait a few more days for the rollout to finish entirely. Despite not having the feature ourselves, we do know a little more about how it will…
Two years after release, a modder by the name of SpecterDev has managed to jailbreak the PlayStation 5. The exploit gives users root privileges and read/write access to the console’s system memory. Not even a week later, users are already installing Hideo Kojima’s gone, but not forgotten Silent Hill P.T demo. Because why not? When the Shawshank was redeemed If you weren’t aware, ‘jailbreaking’ is the act of exploiting a device’s security flaws, to install software that the manufacturer hasn’t made publicly available for the device. A jailbroken device gives the user complete access to the device’s operating system and…
If paying to remove the two, three, or sometimes ten ads before a YouTube video wasn’t enough, YouTube’s latest tests indicate that it could be considering locking 4K videos behind a paywall. Over the weekend, several Redditors and Twitter users noted that YouTube had asked them to upgrade to Premium to watch videos with the 2160p option enabled. 4K-ing Hell So, after testing up to 12 ads on YouTube for non-Premium users, now some users reported that they also have to get a Premium account just to watch videos in 4K. pic.twitter.com/jJodoAxeDp — Alvin (@sondesix) October 1, 2022 Now, we…

It feels so good seeing Elon Musk’s name in the news without ‘insert Twitter controversy here’ following it. This time, it’s because of the “Optimus” not-Prime AI robot unveiling at Tesla’s 2022 AI Day, which took place yesterday. Last year, we got a look at some guy in a suit, impersonating the ‘Tesla bot’. This year, however, we got to see the real Optimus’ humble beginnings. Tesla Autobots, Walk Out! The Optimus bot wasn’t the only humanoid bot on display at the event. We first saw BumbleCee, which was built out of “semi off-the-shelf” actuators, compared to the Optimus’ fully…
We’re less than two weeks away from the launch of the iPhone 14 Plus in South Africa. It joins the iPhone 14, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, all of which have already hit shelves. The final piece of the puzzle lands later this month, on 14 October. Brace yourselves The two main differences between the bog-standard iPhone 14 and its Plus-sized older brother are the 6.7in screen and larger battery tucked inside. You’ll be paying R24,400 for those privileges – R3,800 more than the base model. You’re given 128GB of storage to play around with if the cheapest option…
Several of Rain’s 4G and 5G products have received (fairly minor) price hikes, with the added benefit of faster speeds and fewer streaming caps. The updated prices appeared on the provider’s website on Saturday, 1 October, citing inflation as the catalyst for the hikes. Speaking to MyBroadband, Rain explained that the increased prices would affect customers’ December invoices for services provided in November. The largest increase here is only R40, while the lowest is R15. Overall, Rain hasn’t been as greedy as it could have been. The only product that remains unchanged is Rain’s R1,000 5G for home service. Everyone…
Remember 2019? The world hadn’t ended yet, Iron Man was still alive and Google had just announced Stadia. Just a couple of months later the world was thrown into lockdown. We’re not saying Stadia did that, but the timing seems too convenient for Google. Now, three years later and Google has announced the end of Stadia. Goodbye Stadia “A few years ago, we also launched a consumer gaming service, Stadia. And while Stadia’s approach to streaming games for consumers was built on a strong technology foundation, it hasn’t gained the traction with users that we expected so we’ve made the…
