If you’re familiar with Discord, you’ll know one of the many boons for server owners and casual users is the use of bots for menial tasks. If you aren’t familiar, Discord has an API (Application Programming Interface) that allows server owners to manage their servers and automate many tasks with bots, kinda like the ones you interact with on some websites. According to Discord, around 430,000 bots are used every week by the 150 million monthly active Discord users. The company has obviously noticed this, or maybe it was the plan all along. From around Q2 2022, users will be…
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first Xbox console and Halo: Combat Evolved on Monday, Microsoft released the open beta for the free-to-play multiplayer mode of Halo Infinite, much to fans’ delight. Since then it has been receiving mostly positive feedback, although there’s one thing fans haven’t been too keen on — the battle pass progression. Depending on who you ask you’ll probably get a different answer for the cause of frustration if the Halo subreddit is anything to go by. There are those that would prefer to pay for the game instead of cosmetics. Others don’t like the…
The year is nearly done and that means it’s time to look back at all the video games that have come out over the course of the last 12 months and give the good ones the acknowledgement and recognition they deserve. Thus, The Game Awards 2021 nominations have been revealed with a few surprises. Games to receive a Game Award Deathloop leads the pack with nine nominations in eight of the 30 categories. While that’s a lot, it’s not that much of a surprise, we were big fans of this one. The nine nominations include Best Game Direction, Best Narrative,…
In a recent GQ interview, Xbox head Phil Spencer pretty much confirmed that the upcoming Elder Scrolls VI title will be exclusive to Xbox Game Pass platforms. That means PC and Xbox only. We still don’t know when it’s releasing or what it will actually be called and now PlayStation owners have another thing to worry about. Why you got to be like that Xbox? Bethesda’s newest title Starfield, set to release on 11 November 2022, is already confirmed to be an Xbox and PC exclusive. Phil Spencer expects the same for The Elder Scrolls IV, according to GQ. “But in…
Samsung has finally released the publicly available update to its mobile device platform. One UI 4 is based on Google’s Android 12, the world’s leading mobile operating system with nearly 73% market share. The company announced today that the update will only be available to the Galaxy S21, S21+ and S21 Ultra devices for now. Support for older devices, including tablets, is ‘coming soon’. We first got wind of Android 12 at Google’s I/O event earlier this year in May. In September, we got a potential release date of 4 October, which was still rumoured at the time. That was…
Snoopy in space One of the world’s goodest boys, Snoopy, will be heading to space in early 2022 in NASA’s Artemis I mission. The mission will serve as a test flight for NASA’s new SLS (Space Launch System) rocket which will put the first woman and person of colour on the moon. Snoopy won’t be joining the crew on the surface but his test-flight suit will be fitted with a zero-gravity sensor that the ground crew will use to monitor when the fluffy astronaut has left Earth’s gravitational field. This isn’t the first cross-over for Charlie Brown’s best friend and the…
sCalling all mechanical keyboard enthusiasts. Some cool news just landed that we thought we might share with the three of you. Designer Matt3o has launched his officially-licenced custom Elven and Dwarven keycap sets. Spoiler, they look great. One of the things that made Lord of the Rings so great was the world that Tolkien crafted. In case you didn’t know, the world of Middle-earth even has its own history of the languages that Tolkien created. If you were looking for a set of MX stemmed keycaps for your next build or to replace our current set, then why not learn…
South Africa’s communications minister, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, has high hopes and big dreams for the country’s digital footprint. Her department is looking into a mass roll-out that will see every South African able to connect to the internet. Speaking at a BRICS meeting, Ntshavheni said “We are considering a program to fast track the connection of all South Africans or to ensure that all South Africans have access to an internet connection within the next 24 months.” It is easy to read that and immediately dismiss it as another lofty government idea. One that will take forever to get off the…
Stuff says – 3/5 We recently got our hands on another Chromebook to play around with. This time it was the Asus Chromebook Flip C214. This isn’t a laptop, it’s a Chromebook. That’s an important distinction to make. As far as Chromebooks go, if you’ve tried one, you’ve tried them all. We have yet to see a Chromebook that has really wowed us. Chromebooks generally come in two form factors; 2-in-1s, where the screen and keyboard are detachable and the sort that look like a rather small, regular laptop. Of the ones that look like a regular laptop, you can…
