Following Chinese and global launches last month, Oppo South Africa has stuck to its word and officially launched the flagship Find X9 Pro in South Africa, with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of R30,000. Sales for the device should commence tomorrow, Friday, 7 November, exclusively from Vodacom, which has taken the liberty to bump the price up by R3,000… for some reason.
Not counting the Find N2 Flip that saw a small number of units made available in the country in 2022, this is the first device from Oppo‘s flagship Find series to launch in South Africa.
“More than just a smartphone, Find X9 Series embodies OPPO’s commitment to empowering creators, providing the advanced tools they need to create and express every moment in their own way,” the company said.
The Find X9 Pro could be the camera champ
There are at least two features that Oppo hopes will make you consider the Find X9 Pro as your next flagship upgrade: the camera and battery systems.
The former comprises three rear sensors, including a 50MP f/1.5 main sensor with OIS (optical image stabilisation), another 50MP f/2.0 120° ultra-wide shooter, and a 200MP f/2.1 70mm 3x optical zoom periscope telephoto sensor, also featuring OIS. There’s a 50MP f/2.0 front-facing camera for selfies or video calls. While the hardware looks good on paper, Oppo is surely leaning on its partnership with Hasselblad to make the most of the gear.
While you might scoff at a ‘mere’ 80W wired charging when 120W-charging devices exist, the 7,500mAh silicon-carbon battery inside is certainly impressive. It should last light to moderate users a solid few days, and Oppo says even heavy users should get a full day, plus change, between charges.
Elsewhere, it is equipped with the Dimensity 9500 SoC from MediaTek, with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of ROM in the local units. It also features a 6.78in (1,272 x 2,772px) AMOLED display.
While South Africa won’t be getting Oppo’s telephoto zoom lens kit, there’s a bundle of extra value on offer with a Find X9 Pro purchase. That includes a 50W wireless charger, an 80W wired charger, a magnetic phone case (think Apple’s MagSafe tech), the Oppo Watch X2, and extra maintenance perks from Oppo Care.
