Spar South Africa has partnered with food delivery platform Uber Eats to improve ease of access to its product range. Customers can already shop online through the retailer’s 2U app, and this gives them another option, while also grabbing a bite on the way.
My Spar goes out 2U
The partnership lets customers access Spar, Tops, and KwikSpar stores around South Africa through the Uber Eats app. For now, the initiative is available only in select locations, but the retailer has ambitions to grow this list to 150 by the end of July, and up to 400 by the end of 2025.
Blake Raubenheimer, The Spar Group‘s Omnichannel Executive, says the retail chain’s reputation is “built on offering conveniently located, independently owned stores that serve their communities with care. By partnering with Uber Eats, we aim to provide our customers with greater convenience, value, and speed, while maintaining the quality, affordability of daily deals, and the community-first innovation.”
The retailer reckons the benefits of the partnership are an increase in convenience for customers, bringing 2U’s catalogue to Uber Eats’ 2.1 million active user base. Users can also continue to get accurate info on whether a product is in stock or not, while also grabbing some Spar ribs (heh) in the process.
Raubenheimer also promises more initiatives to make its digital presence worthwhile to customers. “As our partnership continues to evolve, we will integrate additional features that align with [our] vision of fostering long-term growth and digital innovation across [our] retail network. This includes customised in-app campaigns that allow individual Spar retailers to showcase the local products and specialties that they’re famous for, along with any hyper-local special offers.”
Both Uber Eats and the 2U app are available for free on the Android and Apple app stores. Your purchases… those will cost money.
