The PlayStation TV (or the PlayStation Vita TV, as it’s known across Asia) never took off, did it? That might have something to do with the fact that it allowed users to play certain Vita games — one of Sony’s most under-represented bits of hardware… ever — on their TV using a DualShock 3 or 4 controller. It was a novel idea, and also one of the earliest proponents for Remote Play with the PS4. Now, it could make a comeback.

Notably, with significantly expanded hardware capabilities. The original PS TV shipped with the Vita’s internals, so if a comeback really is on the cards, as leaker @Zuby_Techclaims, it’d make sense that it’d pack in tech worthy of 2026. The ‘console’ is expected to land alongside the new handheld console Sony is reportedly developing.
The leaker doesn’t mention any specifics about the device itself, leading to a fair bit of guesswork below. If the two devices do arrive together, they’ll likely come bearing similar specs to one another. As of December last year, it was reported that Sony’s handheld would rely on all those “low-power” updates pushed to the PS5 recently.

Or, as Notebookcheck points out, Sony may just be looking to revive the ‘PlayStation TV’ branding, rather than the hardware itself. Sony’s PS6 handheld has long been rumoured to follow in the Switch’s footsteps, which would mean allowing the console to be ‘docked’ and played from the TV. This could just be Sony’s roundabout way of marketing such a feature somewhere down the line.
We’re also not ruling out the possibility of Sony prepping a real TV — with moving pictures and everything. Hell, maybe with TCL at the helm. It’s not completely out of the question, especially after the company announced a proper PlayStation gaming monitor back in December. Whatever the fate of PlayStation TV, we’re betting we won’t hear about it for some time. Not until the RAM wars are over, anyway.
