It feels like only yesterday Xreal took the stage at CES to unveil its altogether more competent and affordable 1S specs. That’s because it was. It didn’t take long for the AR spec-makers to unveil a new collaboration with Asus’ ROG that’ll turn Xreal’s hardware into a proper little gamer, replete with a 240Hz refresh rate and 171in display.
Speccy spectacles?
They’re known as the ROG Xreal R1 gaming glasses, and boast dual plug-and-play microOLED (1920×1080) displays that’ll hit 240Hz without breaking a sweat — a feat that Asus reckons it is the first to accomplish. The idea is to put a massive 171in virtual display in front of your eyes from only 4 metres away. For gaming purposes.
It’ll handle a screening of Oppenheimer or a casual doomscrolling session just as well, though. It’s kitted with Bose audio tech and plugs into the ROG Ally handhelds or a smartphone via USB-C. Gaming on a PS5, Xbox, PC, or Switch requires the use of the ROG Control Dock to flick between consoles, a matter of a few clicks.

Expect to see more of these partnerships from Asus ROG in the future. While the company’s own mobile gaming hardware suffocates in the corner, it’s found success in partnering with big names, offsetting manufacturing and software pressures. It started with the Xbox ROG Ally X, and now it’s jumping aboard Xreal’s hardware. Could there be an Asus/Xbox/Xreal VR headset in our future?
Neither company has spilt the beans on pricing yet, but don’t be surprised to see these blow the company’s 1S specs out of the water, which debuted at $450 (∼R7,400), though packing 120Hz displays. Asus says these begin shipping in the first half of 2026, so expect to see a price reveal sooner rather than later.
