For Epic, it’s all about one day overthrowing Steam’s longstanding superiority and to do that, it needs to fix that clunky launcher hand out free games every other day. Today is one of those days, with Hogwarts Legacy making itself available to all Epic Games players on PC.
Upholding a Hogwarts Legacy
All Epic Games needs from you is a name, email address, and date of birth. Nobody actually said they had to be accurate, though you’ll want the email address to be one you can access for verification purposes. Beyond that, go nuts — and don’t forget to check back in a couple of days for whatever Epic puts in the ‘free’ column next.
If you missed out on Hogwarts Legacy back in 2023, this is your chance to dive into the world. The story is surprisingly decent (assuming you follow the Sebastian storyline to its end), and the biggest draw — Hogwarts — lives up to the hype, even if you can’t go rocketing around on a Nimbus 2000 with oftentimes clunky controls.

How soon it all devolves into a Ubisoft slideshow that involves running around the map to clear out encampments and fetch random objects to complete quests is entirely up to you. There’s enough content to keep you engaged with the main story for 15+ hours, even if it does get a bit stale after the first couple of hours.
You’ll need to claim Hogwarts Legacy before 18h00 on Thursday, 18 December, after which it’ll be gone forever (AKA will cost you R1,000). Assuming you make it to a computer with a working internet connection in time (really, any computer will do) and claim it, it’ll stick around in your account forever, no strings attached.
