It’s already that time of year again. With E3 out of the picture like that scummy ex at a wedding, the one-man show from presenter Geoff Keighley that is The Game Awards has stepped up in recent years, serving as the gaming community’s de facto hub for reveals and trailers. Oh, and it’s also an awards show. We think.
The Game Awards has certainly leaned into the more commercial bits of the show that generate the doubloons as it’s grown in scope, with Geoff only occasionally forgetting that he’s meant to be dishing out awards in between the numerous pats on Hideo Kojima’s back. It’ll be interesting to see who takes home the big prize this year, however, with Hollow Knight: Silksong, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Hades II vying for the honours.
It’s The Game Awards, babe
If you’re serious about supporting your pick for Game of the Year (there’s still time to vote), then you’ll need to keep those lashes propped up ’til 02h00 on the morning of Friday, 12 December for local Saffas. It’ll certainly give your kettle something to do, or if you’re feeling brave, your alarm clock. We wouldn’t risk it.
As for what’s on the menu — other than a bunch of awards scattered throughout the two-hour-long showing, we can’t be sure. We’re still holding out hope that the mysterious statue out in the desert is teasing some sort of new Hello Kitty game, but we told ourselves we wouldn’t be burned again. Besides, it seems all but confirmed that it’s got something to do with Larian Studios, which is nearly as good as some fresh Hello Kitty content.

As for fans of easily the best Assassin’s Creed game, Black Flag, they’ll have the long-awaited remaster to look forward to this evening (tomorrow morning?), leaked a full 24 hours ahead of schedule by those blasted folk at PEGI. Not that we’re complaining. If Ubisoft can nail the pirate-sim for current consoles (and possibly rid itself of the endless tailing missions and modern-day story) for a reasonable price, it could restore faith in the franchise.
As per usual, you’ll find The Game Awards over on its website, YouTube, Twitch, X.com, Steam, and Facebook (and plenty more besides), but most surprising of all is that it’ll be hosted on Amazon Prime Video, too. If you’d rather be snoring at 02h30 tomorrow morning, we don’t blame you. Fear not, for Stuff has got you covered.
