Nintendo’s Switch 2 sales are going swimmingly, if a report from Bloomberg is to be believed. The Japanese Mario-makers have reportedly told their suppliers to build 25 million Switch 2 units by March 2026.
It’s easy to see why. The Nintendo Switch 2 is still basking in the warmth of its massively successful launch back in June, with sources familiar with the matter citing a continually climbing number of sales — even all these months later — for Nintendo’s sudden interest in quickly furthering the number of units available.
Switch 2 on the rise
The behemoth looks set to surpass even the company’s own fairly low expectations of around 15 million units (hindight is 2020). And with Mariah Carey awakening from her slumber, it means the holiday season is right around the corner, which is partly why Nintendo would like to manufacture as many units as it possibly can.
If things go Nintendo’s way, it could have a 20-million-strong sales sheet on its desk by the end of the console’s first fiscal year (end March 2026), and still a bunch of consoles sitting on the shelves. That’s a major step-up from, say, the PlayStation 5, which was notoriously difficult to find in stores around the time of its release.

Compared to the first Switch, which has gone on to become one of the best-selling consoles of all time in the eight years since it released, the Switch 2 looks set to outpace it — at least in its first year. The original Switch console managed to shift 17.79 million units in its first 13 months. A feat the Switch 2 will beat, no doubt.
According to market researcher Circana (via Mat Piscatella on Bluesky), Nintendo’s Switch 2 sales “are trending 77% ahead [of] the time-aligned sales of the original Nintendo Switch.” And, judging by Nintendo’s latest earnings report, the games are selling well too — pulling in 8.67 million Switch 2 game sales, on top of the 24.4 million Switch 1 games it has sold.
