Dolby’s FlexConnect technology is coming to TCL’s new QD-Mini-LED aka Precise Dimming series of televisions. Known as Dolby Atmos FlexConnect in full, it allows devices TVs to automatically detect and connect to any wireless speakers in the room. Once connected, the software analyses the room’s dynamics to adjust volume and sound profiles accordingly.
TCL’s new Flex
To help users with the transition, TCL is launching its Z100 smart speaker. The panoramic smart speaker will facilitate seamless connection with the Precise Dimming TVs. Users can also group up to four Z100 speakers for a full 360-degree Dolby Atmos sonic experience. Gamers beware, though, Atmos can only be found on the newer Xbox and PlayStation consoles.
The feature will launch alongside TCL’s upcoming QD-Mini-LED lineup, including the 65in QM8K, QM7K, and QM6K models. Mini-LED technology harnesses smaller LED points with more precise individual lighting, which means there’s less blooming, making for clearer viewing with better contrast.
Back in the day, to get the best audio, people had to carefully choose where to place speakers and then choose a “best seat” to get the full benefits of the room’s layout. FlexConnect negates the need to stress about any of these when seeking an ideal audiovisual experience. Presumably, the company’s own speakers will help out with this. TCL has not shared any info on the Z100’s local release, but we’ll keep you posted when details are made public.
To glean what we can on potential SA prices, let’s take a look at TCL’s manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) for the premium QM8K in the US: $2,300 (R41,158) for the 65-in, $3000 (R53,662) for the 75in, and the XXL 98-incher for a hefty $6,500 (R116,268). The models will be available for purchase (in the US) sometime next month.
