It might be the first official day of Computex 2025, but that hasn’t stopped the big brands from releasing their plethora of new tech already. Acer is one such big brand and, along with the usual new devices, unveiled a few unique things too.
The Acer FreeSense Ring and AI TransBuds from Acer Gadget apparently “reflect the company’s growing expansion into AI-powered wearables and real-time communication tools.” One guess as to what each one does.
Acer Gadget branches out with smart wearables

If you guessed a ring-shaped health tracker and real-time translation earbuds, congrats, you win all the points.
The FreeSense ring features a sleek titanium alloy construction that houses its biometric sensors. Those sensors track your vital metrics, like heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen levels, and sleep quality.
You’ll need the companion smartphone app to do anything with those data points. Not that you’ll have to do much. The app will analyse them for you to provide wellness insights and suggestions if anything needs improving. If you’re expecting to pay a monthly subscription fee, you’ll probably be pleased to note that there isn’t one.
The AI TransBuds are geared towards monolingual folks. They allow for real-time two-way multilingual communication, once they’re connected to a smartphone (or tablet) and the receiver is plugged in. The good news is that you and your interlocutor won’t both need to wear a pair of the ‘buds; a single pair is all you need to bridge the language barrier, as long as the barrier is one of the 15 supported languages.
If you’d prefer a level of separation between you and the folks you can’t understand, the ‘buds also support live captioning and transcription, so you can review the translation in real time and then review it later.
There’s no official confirmation that these new devices will turn up in South Africa. We reached out to Acer but didn’t hear back before the time of publication. Expect to hear more about these if they do make their way to local shelves.
