In May, Pac-Man will be 45 (years old), and Casio appears to be the only one willing to celebrate the yellow fella’s big day. Yep, that’s the watch-makers we’re talking about, which recently announced a line of – you guessed it – watches to get fans in the Pac-Man mood and celebrate the milestone in, er, style. And tell the time, of course.
(This time for Africa?)
Specifically, Casio has four Pac-Man-themed watches ready to go. There’s the CA-53WPC-1B dipped in a vat of the iconic Pac-Man yellow, or the ABL100WEPC-1B (we’re sensing a theme here) – a Bluetooth affair kitted out in a shade of black designed to put you right back on the legendary board.
“The watch face is designed to evoke a game stage with the familiar characters running through the maze on the game screen, and is outlined by a yellow bezel to project the look of an arcade game machine,” reads the CA-53WPC-1B’s description.
And then there are the F91WPC-1A and A168WEPC-7A models celebrating the equally famous ghosts, slathered in a black and silver look, respectively, to round out the four. Only two watches feature Casio’s metallic bands, while the remaining two include a bio-based resin strap “expected” to reduce environmental impact.

Each is kitted out with a bunch of different abilities. The most expensive of the lot – at $130 (R2,400) – includes Bluetooth support that allows for automatic time correction and step-tracking abilities that can be easily transferred to your phone. The flagship yellow model leans into the retro feel with basic time-telling capabilities and a whole calculator on its front. The others? They’re just time-tellers, costing $60 (R1,100).
Each watch is kitted out with tons of easter eggs for you to find. Some, like the ‘WAKA WAKA’ printed out over the clasp, are easier to spot, while the rest require digging to spot. Hell, even the boxes they arrive in are a throwback to the arcade machines our guy Pac debuted on back in the eighties.
There’s just one teensy little problem: these aren’t headed for South Africa, or anywhere that isn’t the US or Japan. It’s probably for the best, right? Who’d want to own just one of these beauties? If you’re desperate to show off your Pac-Man love, however, we have found A168WEPC-7A on sale locally, with a decidedly massive markup attached.
