Whether you entered 2025’s clutches with the hopes of learning something new just so you can slap it on your resume or not, Udemy makes a compelling case for becoming your new temple of learning. If you aren’t familiar, Udemy styles itself as one of the larger online teaching marketplaces out there with more than 250,000 courses available. And, at the risk of sounding like a YouTuber looking for rent money, they’re all on sale. Well, almost.
By quite the sum, too. Stick around on Udemy’s site for most of the year and you’ll rarely ever see its top courses drop below the R1,000 mark – especially if your interests involve IT, AI, or coding. Presently, nearly everything is R150 – though a few of the more technical courses cost up to R250. Regardless, that’s roughly 85% off. We don’t care what your plans for 2025 were – go and get yourself a course. Or ten. Now.
New Year, new sale
Let’s get something straight, shall we? While most of Udemy’s quarter-of-a-million courses can be purchased cheap and will remain yours to keep, the school also offers customers a Netflix-like subscription service that’ll unlock all those courses at once. We don’t need to tell you that’s a bad idea, right? It’s overly expensive and caters to those corners of your mind yet to be explored. Stick to what you know, and spend far less.
It’s worth remembering that not everything in Udemy’s massive library is on sale, although it hardly matters. We only ran into one instance of a course – in the screenwriting department – that had firmly stuck to the R2,100 price tag. A quick scroll down immediately yielded thousands of options on sale, with varying levels of difficulty and a wealth of languages offered.

Say you’re looking to learn some Python. More specifically, looking to learn Python from the ground up – no coding experience required. Why not dive into the most popular course available for only R200? It’s offered in over 15 languages – includes the very basics of the language, and earned itself a 4.6 rating from the two million students. Or, try your hand at something completely out of left field – like soapmaking.
You’ll want to be quick about making those purchases. The sale, which began last week, ends this coming Friday, 10 January. As far as we can tell users don’t have to do anything to get the discount – the ‘NEWYEARCAREER’ is already applied at checkout, and cannot be removed.
