You best believe we weren’t sticking around ’til midnight to sit through PlayStation’s State of Play just to get a look at Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, but we’re starting to wish we had. Ghost of Yōtei, the long-awaited sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, surprised nearly everybody and steamrollered the rest of the event, most of which didn’t capture our attention long enough to read past their title.
To be or bot to be
Some other reveals, however, did manage to elicit a rush of blood to certain parts of the body. Specifically, we’re talking about Astro Bot’s first (and free) DLC, bringing ten new bots that’ll need saving sooner rather than later. Considering that was one of our only issues with the potential Game of the Year, the amazingly speedy turn-around fills us with confidence that we haven’t seen the last of Team Asobi. Not by a longshot.
“I’m not your buddy, pal,” – Nintendo, probably
Despite the looming lawsuit hanging over Pocketpair’s head on account of Nintendo’s legal team, it hasn’t slowed the rollout of Pokémon-wth-guns – Palworld – on PS5. And thank goodness for that. We’ve patiently waited for the game’s PS5 debut since the beginning of this year when it was revealed that it had lured in just under 20 million players during its first month.
25 years later…
After a leak that all but confirmed the comeback of the Legacy of Kain series (now in shiny HD!), PlayStation made the announcement official. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered will see Raziel return to recapture that magic of the original on the PS1, with new and old players experiencing buffed textures and 60fps. It’ll hit the PS Store for PS4 and PS5 owners as soon as 10 December.
Better yet, those PS Plus subscribers who regularly sift through the classics catalogue for something other than Ape Escape to play, Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen and Dino Crisis will be added to the service later this year. The Last of Us Part 1 is also making its way onto the platform for Extra and Deluxe subscribers to enjoy at no extra cost. Be quick about it, however. Sony doesn’t like to leave the expensive games up there for too long.
…now it’s a ghost town
It’s no Infamous 3, but Sucker Punch’s latest title, Ghost of Yōtei, will have to do in the meantime. Ghost of Yōtei follows up on the special Ghost of Tsushima, introducing an entirely new protagonist, a new story to unfold, more Japan, and a 2025 release date to help you live through the inevitable Grand Theft Auto VI delay.
Sucker Punch is keeping details close to its chest for now, but it was able to reveal that Atsu, the protagonist this time around, will be let loose in the region of Mount Yōtei, “a towering peak in the heart of Ezo,” also known as Hokkaido if you know your Japanese geography. Set 300 years after Tsushima, Yōtei promises to put the PS5’s full power to use, being the first of Sucker Punch’s games to be built from the ground up on the console.
Sony took the opportunity to announce a slew of other games arriving over the coming months – both regular and VR – as well as a chance to shill some new pearlescent shades for the PS5 and DualSense controllers. You can get a look at those by popping along to PlayStation’s official blog.
